Licenses and Certifications Required:
  • Valid Texas Class C Driver’s License
  • One of the following licenses issued by TCEQ (reciprocity for other states may be available)
    • Class C Surface Water,
    • Class C Wastewater,
    • Class C Distribution,
    • Class II Collections

The role:

The Certification Trainer will create engaging training materials and resources, conduct in-person and online training sessions, and tailor programs to meet the diverse needs of Austin Water employees. Reporting to the Training Supervisor of Talent Development, this exciting position requires a solid understanding of adult learning theory, content design, Water operational process, and TCEQ guidelines.

Driving Requirement:

This position requires a Valid Texas Class C Driver’s License or the ability to acquire one by your hire date. External New Hires must meet the City of Austin’s Driver Record Evaluation ( DRE ) requisite . To be considered for a driving position, applicants cannot have more than three moving violations or a total of six Driver Record Evaluation points within a period of thirty-six (36) months.

Secondary Employment:
All Austin Water employees are prohibited from accepting or engaging in any secondary employment that might conflict or interfere with an employee’s duty and responsibility to the Department.
Austin Water must review all secondary employment.

$28.85 - $36.06 per hour

  • Ability to obtain a Class B Water License within six (6) months of employment.
  • Experience working in a utility, or similarly-regulated organization, and in high-risk environments
  • Experience identifying training needs, developing lesson plans, and conducting training
  • Experience working in a consultative role to supervisors, managers and executives as a subject matter expert in collection and distribution, providing advice and counsel on training-related topics
  • Proficient in basic knowledge of Microsoft Office
Duties, Functions and Responsibilities
Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.


Develop, administer and maintain comprehensive instructional programs in areas of water and wastewater specialization Identify and assess instructional needs for water and wastewater employees. Evaluate instructional programs and materials for effectiveness Interpret and explain Federal, State and City policies, procedures, codes, specifications and ordinances in area of expertise Develop materials and training aids including lesson plans, presentations, handouts, visual aids, demonstration props, tests and other course materials. Coordinate class schedule, maintain attendance records, prepare course certificates, and submit attendance information in accordance with TCEQ requirements. Determine appropriate instructional methods for the course materials and the audience. Coordinate and provide advice to management regarding water and wastewater area of specialization.
