Position Description
This position is responsible for performing chemical, microscopic, serologic, hematologic, immunohematologic, parasitic and bacteriologic tests to provide data for use in treatment and diagnosis of disease. Persons in this position provide support to clinical laboratories. Work is performed under general supervision, within established methods and procedures. Work is performed under general supervision. Much of the work is standardized, although the work is governed generally by broad instructions or objectives. Employees in this class generally have no delegated supervisory responsibilities; may instruct or train other personnel in specific techniques, etc. Employees in this class may be exposed to infectious materials (feces, body fluid, etc.); must work with automated machinery and/or equipment which require caution for safety.

Major/Essential Functions
Work is performed under general supervision, within established methods and procedures. Much of the work is standardized, although the work is governed generally by broad instructions or objectives as outlined in CLIA and Joint Commission regulations. Employees in this class generally have no delegated supervisory responsibilities, but may be responsible for reporting tasks and may instruct or train other personnel in specific laboratory techniques and process. Employees in this class may be exposed to infectious materials (blood, urine, etc.) during specimen collection and handling and are expected to use PPE; and must work with automated machinery and/or equipment which require caution for safety. Prior clinical laboratory experience is preferred, but not required. Prior Phlebotomy experience is preferred, but not required. MLS certification through ASCP is required.



Required Qualifications
Education: A minimum of a Bachelor's degree in the biological, natural or physical sciences.
License/Certification: Registered as a Medical Technologist (MT) ASCP.
Experience: No previous work experience.
