The Position

Public Information Officers manage the public relations and information program for an agency on a statewide basis; write media releases, newsletters, and informational brochures; produce audiovisual presentations and take photographs.

Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.

This is a Public Information Officer 1 with the Department of Business and Industry, Division of Insurance. The incumbent will manage media requests, public records requests, and social media accounts for the Division of Insurance. Send press releases on behalf of the Division, and coordinate press releases with other agencies as necessary. To Qualify:

In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications) Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in journalism, English, public or community relations, communications or closely related field and two years of professional experience in public relations or public information including writing media releases and newsletters, preparing speeches and multimedia presentations; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience. Special Requirements This position requires travel up to 25% of the time. A valid drivers license or evidence of equivalent mobility is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment. The Examination Application Evaluation Exam The exam will consist of an application evaluation. It is essential that applications include detailed information with time frames regarding education and experience. The most qualified applicants will be contacted by the hiring agency for interview.
