The Position

Fire Control Dispatchers operate communication equipment at an assigned interagency communications center and dispatch personnel, supplies, aircraft and mobile equipment to fire scenes, medical emergencies, law enforcement incidents, hazardous materials incidents and other emergency situations.

Incumbents function as first-line supervisors who train, supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned staff; assign and review work; and initiate disciplinary action. The Fire Control Dispatcher III (FCDIII) is the Supervisory Nevada Division of Forestry Dispatcher and one of the Assistant Center Managers at the Elko Interagency Dispatch Center (EIDC), in Elko Nevada. EIDC provides wildland fire, aviation, logistical and administrative dispatch support to five Interagency partners: NDF, Bureau of Land Management, United States Forest Service, United States Fish and Wildlife Service, and Bureau of Indian Affairs. This position performs the supervisory functions for the State Employees working in the Dispatch Center, such as hiring, scheduling, approving timesheets, updating work performance standards, and completing performance evaluations for the Fire Control Dispatcher I, Fire Control Dispatcher II and Seasonal Fire Control Dispatcher positions.

The FCDIII acts as one of the floor supervisors who help facilitate and coordinate the emergency dispatch responses during Wildland Fire Season. This position is also responsible for performing building steward duties, ensuring that the State Facility is being properly maintained, Fire Safety Systems are operational, and safety issues are being addressed. They must complete the mandatory state and federal training requirements, as well as the NWCG training requirements for the Expanded Dispatch Recorder, Expanded Dispatch Support Dispatcher, Initial Attack Dispatcher, Aircraft Dispatcher and Expanded Dispatch Supervisory Dispatcher Positions. To Qualify:

In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications) Graduation from high school or equivalent education and five years of emergency dispatching experience, two years of which must have been in a fire control or public safety agency; OR two years of experience as a Fire Control Dispatcher II in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above. Special Requirements Employees may be required to work varied shifts, weekends and holidays. Applicants are required to type 45 words per minute. Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances.
