ABOUT THE DISTRICT The San Ramon Valley Fire Protection District is an independent Special District in Contra Costa County responsible for providing a high level of emergency and non-emergency services to the communities it serves. The District's service area encompasses approximately 155 square miles, serving the communities of Alamo, Blackhawk, Danville, Diablo, San Ramon, the southern boundary of Morgan Territory, and the Tassajara Valley. The District serves a population of 192,858. The communities are primarily residential, commercial, office park, and controlled manufacturing, along with wildland areas, protected by nine stations and one volunteer staffed station with 185 employees, and 56 volunteers. Financial oversight and strategic policy direction are provided by an elected 5-member Board of Directors. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS The following minimum qualifications are required: Must possess a valid State of California Paramedic license with ACLS certification at time of appointment. Must complete a California State Fire Marshal Accredited Firefighter I Academy.Must be at least 18 years of age.Must possess a high school diploma or GED. DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS This is a non-safety/non-firefighter position that works under the supervision of a Fire Captain and the overall direction of an EMS Coordinator to perform emergency medical transport services. An incumbent will work twenty-four (24) hour rotating shifts with overtime applicable upon the completion of forty (40) hours of work within the designated 7-day work week. TEMPORARY/PART-TIME EMPLOYMENT: Part-Time employment status does not qualify for City paid benefits, except for those required by law. The City does not belong to the Social Security system. However, enrollment in an alternative retirement program is mandatory which requires an employee contribution of 7.5% of base earnings. The City contributes 2.5% and the employee contributes 5% of base earnings. Part-time shifts may not exceed 999 hours on a fiscal year basis (July 1 through June 30). Working hours require irregular hours and weekends. DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS This is a non-safety/non-firefighter position that works under the supervision of a Fire Captain and the overall direction of an EMS Coordinator to perform emergency medical transport services. An incumbent will work twenty-four (24) hour rotating shifts with overtime applicable upon the completion of forty (40) hours of work within the designated 7-day work week. TEMPORARY/PART-TIME EMPLOYMENT: Part-Time employment status does not qualify for City paid benefits, except for those required by law. The City does not belong to the Social Security system. However, enrollment in an alternative retirement program is mandatory which requires an employee contribution of 7.5% of base earnings. The City contributes 2.5% and the employee contributes 5% of base earnings. Part-time shifts may not exceed 999 hours on a fiscal year basis (July 1 through June 30). Fire Fighter Trainees participate in an intensive training program that includes basic firefighting and emergency medical treatment responsibilities. The basic firefighting training program involves both field and classroom instruction prior to appointment as a Fire Fighter. Recruits must have the mental ability to assimilate classroom instructions and the physical skill, stamina, and coordination to become proficient in all firefighting and rescue techniques. Through classroom and field training, learns proper firefighting techniques and procedures for fighting structural, watershed, chemical, petroleum, electrical and other fires.
