The Chair of the Department of Psychiatry at Texas Tech University Health Science Center (TTUHSC) in the Permian Basin will provide visionary leadership and strategic direction to the department, fostering excellence in clinical care, research, education, and community service. The Chair will be responsible for overseeing all departmental activities, ensuring the highest standards of patient care, promoting faculty development, and advancing the department's academic mission. This role includes managing the ACGME-accredited psychiatry residency program and developing fellowship programs in various subspecialties within the field of Psychiatry. The Chair will also ensure the affiliated behavioral health hospital is adequately staffed and maintain strong relationships with hospital leaders. This position requires a dynamic leader with a strong track record in academic psychiatry, clinical practice, and administrative experience.


Major/Essential Functions
  • Leadership and Strategic Planning:
    1. Develop and implement a strategic vision for the Department of Psychiatry.
    2. Foster a collaborative and inclusive environment that encourages innovation and excellence.
    3. Lead departmental planning efforts in alignment with the overall goals of the academic health center.
  • Clinical Excellence:
    1. Ensure the delivery of high-quality, patient-centered psychiatric care.
    2. Oversee clinical operations, ensuring efficient and effective service delivery.
    3. Promote interdisciplinary collaboration to enhance patient outcomes.
  • Academic and Educational Oversight:
    1. Oversee the development and implementation of educational programs, including undergraduate, graduate, and continuing medical education.
    2. Direct and manage the ACGME-accredited psychiatry residency program.
    3. Develop and implement fellowship programs in various subspecialties of psychiatry.
    4. Support faculty in their roles as educators, ensuring high standards of teaching and mentorship.
    5. Foster a culture of lifelong learning and professional development.
  • Research and Scholarship:
    1. Promote and support research activities within the department.
    2. Encourage faculty to engage in scholarly activities and secure research funding.
    3. Facilitate collaboration with other departments and external partners to advance research initiatives.
  • Faculty Development and Mentorship:
    1. Recruit, retain, and mentor high-quality faculty members.
    2. Support faculty career development, including promotion and tenure processes.
    3. Foster an environment that values diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Administrative and Financial Management:
    1. Manage departmental budgets and resources effectively.
    2. Ensure compliance with institutional policies and regulatory requirements.
    3. Oversee departmental staffing, including recruitment, retention, and performance management.
    4. Ensure the affiliated behavioral health hospital is adequately staffed with qualified professionals.
  • Community Engagement and Hospital Relations:
    1. Represent the department within the TTUHSC and the broader community.
    2. Develop and maintain relationships with external stakeholders, including healthcare providers, policymakers, and community organizations.
    3. Maintain strong relationships with hospital leaders to ensure seamless integration of clinical services and alignment with hospital goals.
    4. Promote the departments contributions to public health and community well-being.


Occasional Duties


Required Qualifications
  • MD, DO or MBBS.
  • Completion of a Residency in Psychiatry.
  • Board Certified in Psychiatry.
  • Ability to obtain a Texas License.
  • Three or more years of psychiatry experience.
  • Three or more years of leadership experience.
