The Position

Licensed Professional Engineers provide professional services involving the application of engineering principles and data, or activities in connection with public or private utilities, structures, buildings, machines, equipment or projects impacting the public welfare or the safeguarding of life, health or property.

Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training. This position is located in Carson City with the Hydraulics Division. Performing engineering analysis and using specialized engineering knowledge to assist in the coordination and implementation of NDOT's Hydraulic and Stormwater programs. Performing hydrologic, hydraulic and water quality engineering analysis. Identifying design flow rates and conveyance methods using appropriate computer models. Preparing technical studies, construction plans and technical specifications for open channels, storm drains, culverts, detention basins, and other drainage facilities on public projects.

Reviewing technical engineering calculations, reports, hydrologic and hydraulic studies, plans, specifications, and cost estimates, for compliance with NDOT standards and Federal, State, and local requirements. Providing technical expertise and guidance to other Divisions, Districts, consultant engineers, and the public. Act as the lead design engineer for drainage projects or the drainage component of larger projects; Coordinate project activities with other Divisions and public agencies. Research cost and availability of supplies and products to be used on a project. Represent the Department at public hearings to inform the public and receive comments. Participate in and perform site investigations to determine construction feasibility and drainage design features. Provide technical support for construction of drainage improvements during construction; recommend solutions to construction problems related to drainage improvements; review construction submittals for approval or rejection; conduct on-site inspections. In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications) Current Licensure as a Professional Engineer (P.E.) Special Notes A person that is a licensed Professional Engineer in another state must become licensed as a Professional Engineer in Nevada within six months of appointment as a condition of employment. The practice of engineering does not include land surveying or the work ordinarily performed by persons who operate or maintain machinery or equipment. The Examination Application Evaluation Exam The exam will consist of an application evaluation. It is essential that applications include detailed information with time frames regarding education and experience. The most qualified applicants will be contacted by the hiring agency for interview.
