Essential Job Functions

Some of the responsibilities of this position are:
  • Formulates policies, plans, and procedures as they relate to the Wellness Division of the Fire Department.
  • Manages the Mental Wellness Section under the administrative supervision of the Chief Physician.
  • Creates and manages programs including education, prevention, and intervention.
  • Facilitates effective executive management and supervisory development.
  • Conducts, plans, and designs research in collaboration with appropriate external entities (e.g., accredited Institutional Review Boards).
  • Keeps abreast of all laws, rules, regulations, and policies applicable to assigned programs.
  • Provides input into the annual budget request.


Requirements

SELECTION REQUIREMENTS:

A Doctorate from an accredited college or university* with specialization in clinical psychology - AND - Five years' professional experience in the application of psychological techniques, two years' of which must have included experience in developing, implementing and supervising a psychological program such as a peer support, chaplain, mental health provider or related program for an organization.

LICENSE :
A license** to practice as a Psychologist issued by the State of CaliforniaDepartment of Consumer Affairs, Board of Psychology - OR- A license to practice as a Psychologist as issued by any other state in the United States of America, provided that the license as issued by State of California Department of Consumer Affairs, Board of Psychology can be obtained within six months of appointment to the position.

A valid California Class C Driver License or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions.

PHYSICAL CLASS:
II - Light: This class includes administrative and clerical positions requiring light physical effort that may include occasional light lifting to a 10 pound limit and some bending, stooping, or squatting. Considerable ambulation may be involved.

*Accredited institutions are those listed in the publications of regional, national, or international accrediting agencies which are accepted by the Department of Human Resources. Publications such as American Universities and College and International Handbook of Universities are acceptable references. Also acceptable, if appropriate, are degrees that have been evaluated and deemed to be equivalent to degrees from United States accredited institutions by an academic credential evaluation agency recognized by The National Association of Credential Evaluation Services or the Association of International Credential Evaluations, Inc. (AICE).

In order to receive credit for any college or university degree, such as a Doctoral degree, you must include a legible copy of either the Official Diploma, Official Transcript(s), or Official Letter from the accredited institution (which shows the area of specialization and the date the degree was awarded) with the Registrar's signature and school seal at the time of filing or within fifteen (15) calendar days of submitting an online application. BACKGROUND CHECK INFORMATION :
Candidates who are extended a conditional offer of employment will be required to complete a background check, including a review of any criminal convictions, which requires a fingerprint scan. A candidate with a conviction history which has a direct and adverse relationship with the duties of the Chief, Psychological Services position may undergo the process for his/her conditional offer of employment to be rescinded. If rescinded, a candidate's name will be removed from the certification list pursuant to Civil Service Rule 6.04.

ELIGIBILITY INFORMATION :
The names of the candidates receiving a passing grade in the examination will be placed on the Eligible Register in the order of their score group for a period of twelve (12) months following the date of promulgation.
