California State Polytechnic University, Pomona invites applications for two tenure track faculty positions in the Department of Technology and Operations Management. Cal Poly Pomona is one of three polytechnic universities in the 23-campus California State University system and among 12 such institutions nationwide. Student Population. California residents comprise the majority (96%) of applicants to undergraduate programs at Cal Poly Pomona, and 41% of new students were transfers in Fall 2022. 57% of Cal Poly Pomona students are first generation, 70% receive financial aid, and 44% qualify as Pell-eligible. The university enrolls a diverse student body that identifies as 53% Latinx, 22% Asian, 14% White, 3% Black, 2% International, 4% two or more races, 3% unknown and less than 1% Native Hawaiian or Native Pacific Islander and less than 1% Native American Indigenous. Thirty-nine percent of the student body were STEM majors with the top enrolled programs including psychology, mechanical engineering, civil engineering, biology and computer science.

The College of Business Administration at Cal Poly Pomona is built on the inclusive polytechnic model with a central focus on learning by doing. Department of Technology and Operations Management : The Department has 10 tenure-track faculty members and approximately 550 undergraduate and graduate students, with majority of them coming from underrepresented minority groups. The department offers upper division business courses in two concentrations: Technology and Operations Management and E-Business, supports MBA programs, and hosts two graduate programs: Master of Science in Business Analytics and Master of Science in Digital Supply Chain Management.

Position description: Technology and Operations Management Department invites applications for two tenure track faculty positions. The new faculty members will teach in-person undergraduate and graduate classes primarily in Supply Chain/Operations Management and E-Business related subjects such as operations management introduction, business statistics, technology management, production management, transportation and logistics, project management, purchasing management, inventory and warehouse management, quality management, service operations management, ERP, CRM and others. Integration of modern supply chain technologies such as data management and business analytics subjects into the curriculum is a high priority strategic goal of the department and the candidates are expected to provide significant support and contribution toward this goal. The successful candidates must have a strong interest in research and scholarly activities and are expected to provide university/college/department services. Applicants whose work incorporates a global perspective and a commitment to diversity in higher education are particularly encouraged to apply.

Minimum requirements include:
  • A Ph.D./DBA with concentration in Operations Management, Supply Chain Management or closely related fields such as Industrial Engineering, Operations Research, Management Science, Decision Science etc. from accredited institutions. (Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position.)
  • Demonstrated commitment to publishing in peer-reviewed journals aligned with AACSB accreditation standards.
  • Demonstrated potential for excellence in teaching.
  • A commitment and a record of contributions to student success through applicant’s teaching, scholarship, or service. This will be described in the Student Success Statement, which must address at least two of the inclusive excellence criteria listed above.

Preferred/Desired Qualifications:
  • MBA or relevant business education background.
  • Relevant industry working experience.
  • Academic/Industry background in Business Analytics and/or Data Management and/or Information Systems.
  • Prior teaching experience at the university level.
