Student Population. California residents comprise the majority (96%) of applicants to undergraduate programs at Cal Poly Pomona, and 41% of new students were transfers in Fall 2022. 57% of Cal Poly Pomona students are first generation, 70% receive financial aid, and 44% qualify as Pell-eligible. The university enrolls a diverse student body that identifies as 53% Latinx, 22% Asian, 14% White, 3% Black, 2% International, 4% two or more races, 3% unknown and less than 1% Native Hawaiian or Native Pacific Islander and less than 1% Native American Indigenous. Thirty-nine percent of the student body were STEM majors with the top enrolled programs including psychology, mechanical engineering, civil engineering, biology and computer science.

College of Engineering:
The College of Engineering ’ s mission is to prepare students for industry and advanced studies by implementing an inclusive polytechnic philosophy through collaborative teamwork, innovation, entrepreneurship and professional integrity. The College offers 12 ABET-accredited undergraduate degrees and 7 Master ’ s degrees to over 6,500 students across seven academic departments that include: Aerospace Engineering, Chemical and Materials Engineering, Civil Engineering, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Electromechanical Engineering Technology, Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering. The College is nationally recognized by U.S. News & World Report and currently ranks 5th among undergraduate engineering programs in non-doctorate-granting public institutions. Additionally, it houses more than 40 student clubs that offer hands-on learning opportunities and have been recognized at several national competitions. Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering: The department offers B.S and M.S. degrees in Electrical Engineering and a B.S. in Computer Engineering. The graduate and undergraduate curricula include a large number of laboratories where students experience the practical application of concepts learned in the classroom. Additionally, a senior design project including both design and implementation is required of all undergraduates. The Electrical and Computer Engineering Department (ECE) is accredited with a diverse student body of roughly 1500 students.
The primary focus of the ECE program is on students who plan to go to work as engineers right after graduation. The overall goals of the program are to:
- Help students develop the technical skills needed to be good engineers.
- Help students develop the communication skills needed to be good written and oral communicators.
- Help students develop a sense of responsibility as both engineers and members of society.

Position description: The Electrical and Computer Engineering Department in the College of Engineering at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona invites applications for two tenure-track positions in Electrical and Computer Engineering at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin Fall 2024. The successful candidate will have a strong commitment to excellence in teaching and the potential to establish a research program that involves both undergraduate and graduate students. Teaching responsibilities will include both introductory and advanced courses, as well as assisting in curriculum development. The applicant will be expected to advise students; serve on department, college, and university committees; and engage in professional activities. Applicants whose work supports the university’s Learn by Doing philosophy and demonstrates a commitment to both the highest standards of professional ethics and to inclusion and equity in higher education are particularly encouraged to apply.
Minimum requirements include:
- The applicant must have a Ph.D. in Electrical or Computer Engineering or a closely related field from an accredited university by the date of appointment. (Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position.)
- A commitment to and a record of contributions to student success through applicant’s teaching, scholarship, or service. This will be described in the Student Success Statement, which must address at least two of the inclusive excellence criteria listed above.
- Demonstrated commitment to teaching excellence.
- Demonstrated commitment to IEEE code of ethics.
Preferred/Desired Qualifications: - Preference will be given to candidates in the following areas, in the order listed: Communications or Signal Processing or Electronics, Computer Engineering, Control and Power.
- Ability to teach a broad range of courses in area of Electrical or Computer Engineering.
- Demonstrated potential for developing innovative lecture and laboratory curricula.
- Teaching experience in Electrical or Computer Engineering at an accredited university or college program with demonstrated ability to provide hands-on education.
- Demonstrated commitment to supporting the academic mission through university service work.
- Demonstrated commitment to an active research agenda.
- Relevant professional engineering work experience. This could include industrial experience.
- Demonstrated ability to develop an applied research program. Including experience with contracts and grants for applied research projects, preferably as a PI or co-PI.
- Demonstrated potential to establish industrial collaborations.
- Excellent communication skills.

A transcript showing the highest degree earned or in progress (an official transcript will be required of finalists).

- Final candidates being interviewed are expected to make a presentation of research and a teaching demonstration to faculty and interact with students.
