If qualified, the new hire could be appointed to the role of department chair at the time of hire or in the future. The Department Chair role is a 12-month position. The successful candidate will teach in Central American and Transborder Studies (CATS) and have research interests in issues that engage Central American communities in the Central American region and the Diaspora. The candidate’s research will center Central American cultures and transborder epistemologies that emphasize human rights, justice, labor, migration, youth, family separation, and organizing through critical race, people’s movement, environmental healing, and/or transnationalism analyses. The candidate must have a commitment to work and collaborate with the Central American community in Los Angeles and the southern California region. The associate/full professor position requires weekly office hours, , participation in assessment of student learning, and service to the department, college, and university. The successful candidate will be held to the standards and requirements of the college and department in which he/she/they are housed for recommending tenure and promotion. Our division provides coverage for inpatient pediatric services at Covenant Children's Hospital, University Medical Center Children's Hospital, and Trustpoint rehabilitation hospital. Our division acts as the primary admitting team for many of our pediatric subspecialists and participates in co-management with many of the surgical specialists at each of our hospital sites. We are currently growing a hospitalist-run sedation service at Covenant Children's for children undoing procedures or sedated imaging. About the Position: SOE is seeking an outstanding faculty colleague to prepare reflective scholar practitioners committed to just, equitable, and inclusive school counseling at the P12 level, focusing particularly on our new programs in School Counseling and Psychology. CSUCI faculty are committed teacher-scholars who bring research and creative discovery to problems of practice in education settings. They teach broadly in the curricula of the department, advise students, and serve on departmental, school, and university-wide committees. Courses that this person may teach include those in the counseling and psychology program as well as undergraduate and graduate courses throughout the SOE, depending on expertise. Competitive applicants will have a background in relationship-centered approaches, culturally sustaining pedagogy, and interest in teaching core curriculum in counselor education. The successful applicant will be required to teach a range of courses in some combination of the following: Foundations of the Professional School Counselor Leader; Determinants of Human Behavior: Development; Theoretical Foundations of Counseling; Learning, Achievement and Instruction for School Counselors; The Achievement Gap: Leadership, Advocacy and Systemic Change; College Planning and Career Development P-16; Theory and Process of Group Counseling; Policy, Politics, Law and Ethics for School Counselors; Prevention, Crisis Intervention, and Conflict Resolution in Schools; Professional Seminar in School Counseling; and Thesis Advising.
