The Art, Media, and Design Department (AMD) at California State University San Marcos (CSUSM) seeks a full-time tenure track candidate whose work is based in Graphic Design and 2-D studio arts including drawing, painting, and printmaking as well as hybrid analogue and digital practices across these media. Applicants should demonstrate a professional record of exhibitions and/or graphic design practice as well as theoretical understanding of the field. Applicants’ creative activities/research, service and teaching records should align with AMD’s goal to develop creative thinkers, artist professionals, and cultural leaders through a cross-disciplinary curriculum balancing innovation, traditional craftsmanship, critical thinking, and scholarly civic engagement and activism within a diverse community.

Our department offers tracks in Digital & Media Art, Visual Arts/Visual Culture, and is launching a new minor in Environmental Art and Social Practice. The student-centered, interdisciplinary department seeks applicants with a passion for instigating thoughtful and relevant artwork from a diverse student body. Minimum Qualifications:
  • Master of Fine Arts or equivalent experience
  • Active research and creative agenda
  • Strong national/international exhibition/festival record
  • College level teaching experience in related area

Preferred Qualifications:
  • 2 years+ college level teaching experience in related area
  • Teaching/mentorships with diverse and/or underserved communities
  • Work that embodies themes of diversity through culture, identity, value systems, and/or other ways of knowing
  • Demonstrated experience in program and curriculum development
  • Professional experience in art and design
  • Candidates who complement and expand on the strengths of cultural and intellectual diversity to the area
  • Expertise in critical histories and theories of representation within art and design

Anticipated Hiring Salary Range: $6,916 - $7,333 per month

CSU Classification Salary Range: $5,405 - $11,994 per month
