Position Summary

In partnership with the Dean and the programs leads, the Associate Dean provides leadership and management for regional workforce and education efforts, academic and professional program offerings, and strategic initiatives that align with university priorities. The Associate Dean is responsible for providing planning, management, and leadership to create and sustain strong partnerships across university divisions and with external entities such as employers, community organizations, philanthropic foundations, workforce development boards, elected officials, non-profit organizations, and complementary educational entities. The Associate Dean oversees the administration of Academic and Professional Programs, which provides academic and professional skills programs for adult learners. Responsibilities include development of new degree programs, credential programs, credit certificate programs, contract credit and paraprofessional, career and technical non-credit programs through an equity lens in support of learners’ needs in collaboration with other colleges at Sacramento State.

FLSA: Exempt (Not eligible for overtime)

Anticipated Hiring Range: $10,000 per month - $13,500 per month

Anticipated hiring range commensurate with candidate's education, experience, skills, and training.

CSU Classification Salary Range: $6,250 per month - $20,063 per month

Department Information

The College of Continuing Education (CCE) extends the mission of the university by increasing access for non-traditional learners. With a primary expertise on serving adult learners, CCE provides programs and services to individuals and employers year-round, unbound by traditional semester schedules and formats. CCE serves a hybrid student body that extends beyond California, serving over 80,000 learners annually through in-person, hybrid and fully online workshops, courses, conferences, certificate and degree programs.

Required Qualifications

1. Demonstrated commitment to inclusion, equity and opportunity.

2. Skill and experience examining and reengineering operations and procedures as well as designing and implementing new initiatives to improve regional impact and societal outcomes.

3. A minimum of eight years of work experience including experience in higher education and/or non-profit educational programming with a successful record of accomplishment in leading initiatives within organizations and/or within communities.

4. Ability to think strategically and lead initiatives that affect and involve multiple intersegmental partners, multiple colleges, community partners, and institutional stakeholders.

5. Experience building networks and partnerships, internally and externally, with strong collaboration, persuasion, and consensus-building skills.

6. Proven record of accomplishments, business skills, political acumen, and capacity to handle a large number of interwoven assignments with sensitivity to priorities and shifting demands.

7. Record of accomplishment in adult learner student services and academic programs with strong attention to detail and responsiveness.

8. Demonstrated ability to interpret policy, implement advance-planning techniques, establish performance metrics, and utilize technology effectively.

9. Progressively responsible supervisory, management, and leadership positions and experience in leading, managing, and motivating teams and/or networks.

10. Understanding and experience with applied research and/or program evaluation.

11. Experience developing curriculum and co-curricular programs in a physical and digital environment.

12. Proven record of success in developing and managing projections, budgets, and reconciliations at various levels within higher education or non-profit sectors.

13. Demonstrated ability to write and edit complex materials and effectively present information to a variety of audience types and levels.

14. Demonstrated ability to deliver persuasive public speeches and presentations to large and diverse audiences.

15. Advanced degree from an accredited university.

OTHER

16. Ability to travel on and offsite, including occasional overnight stays to support the essential functions of the position.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

- Ability to successfully pass a background check.

Preferred Qualifications

17. 10+ years of progressively responsible supervisory, management, and leadership experience in higher education, non-profit sector, and/or government.

18. Experience working in a labor union environment.

19. Experience with community engagement, fundraising, and/or grant writing and management.

20. Familiarity with applications of electronic media and communication technologies in adult learning.
