MAINTENANCE UTILITY MECHANIC

This position is open until filled and may close at any time.

The Facilities Maintenance Division of the City of Concord's Public Works Department is seeking two experienced Maintenance Utility Mechanics.

What you will be doing:

The Maintenance Utility Mechanic will be responsible for maintaining, repairing, diagnosing and troubleshooting utility, plumbing, electrical, mechanical and HVAC/R equipment and systems; and performing preventative maintenance on all equipment.

SELECTION PROCESS

All qualified applications and supplemental responses will be competitively evaluated, and those candidates demonstrating the strongest qualifications for the position will be invited to participate in a panel interview. 3. Candidates that pass the panel interview will be placed on the hiring list, based on rank, for further consideration to fill the current regular vacancy, as well as others occurring over the next 12 months.

Examples of duties include, but are not limited to

Inspects, maintains, and repairs air conditioning and heating units, including thermostatic controls, regulators, valves, switches, and motors.Maintains a preventative maintenance inspection and service schedule on filters and moving parts, replaces belts, and makes adjustments on balancing controls.Makes scheduled inspection and services pumps and motors, replaces bearings and packing.Inspects, maintains, and repairs plumbing systems, including valves and fixtures.Maintains and repairs restricted drains and sewer lines and may install and remove sewer, gas, and waterlines.Repairs and installs sheet metal duct work.Inspects on a scheduled basis and maintains park, parking lot, and building security lighting equipment.Trouble-shoots and makes minor electrical repairs; replaces photocells, re-lamps tennis courts and ball fields.Inspects, maintains, and trouble-shoots automatic clock systems and civil defense sirens.Follows safe work procedures. Ensures that proper safety precautions, regulations, and industrial hygiene practices are observed during all work evolutions.Reports equipment malfunctions, needed repairs, and safety/hygiene infractions to supervisor.Confers with supervisors on job priorities, work progress, and maintenance and repair problems.Responds to emergency or complaint calls.Promotes the City's Mission to make Concord a city of the highest quality by providing responsive, cost-effective, and innovative government services; understands and subscribes to the Vision and Values Statement adopted by the City.Performs other work as assigned.

Qualifications

Knowledge and Abilities:

Working knowledge of the standard practices, terms, and procedures used in the maintenance and repair of air conditioning, heating, ventilating, and other mechanical equipment; and of work hazards and safety precautions associated with the work. Ability to skillfully inspect, maintain, and repair air conditioning, heating, ventilating, and other mechanical equipment; to read and interpret related plans, drawings, and specifications; to plan and lay out work effectively; to accurately estimate the labor and materials associated with the work; to understand and carry out oral and written instructions; and to establish and maintain cooperative and effective relationships with those contacted in the course of work. Often work performed is of emergency nature, must be able to work with speed and precision to meet deadlines. Will usually be working alone (or with safety observer) and must possess knowledge of related trades (not necessarily journeyman level skills) to complete jobs assigned.

Education: High school diploma or equivalent.

Experience: Equivalent to completion of a four year apprenticeship program in the maintenance and repair of mechanical equipment. Some related journey level experience in the maintenance and repair of mechanical equipment may substitute.

A California Driver's License and a satisfactory driving record are conditions of initial and continued employment.
