This position serves as the subject matter expert related to the subdivision map act and mapping process. DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS This is a single class position. The Licensed Land Surveyor performs technical survey work and supervises the Mapping Section. Work is technically complex and impacts private and public development activities within the City. Duties include extensive involvement with private developers and other City agencies to ensure compliance and to expedite processing. This classification differs from engineering classes in that it is the sole licensed professional in the survey field and performs both supervisory and oversight work as well as responsible professional technical work. SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED General direction is provided by a higher level manager or division head. Responsibilities include the direct and indirect supervision of professional, technical, and clerical staff. EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION Experience: Three years of experience performancing licensed land survey work, including two years of supervisory experience. Substitution: A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in surveying, civil engineering, or a closely related field may substitute for two years of experience performing licensed land survey work.
