Reporting to the Associate Vice President of Student Affairs, for the College Access and Career Pathways Cluster within the Division of Student Affairs, the Marketing and Communications Specialist collaborates with the College Access and Career Pathways cluster (Center for Educational Partnerships, Outreach, Recruitment and Orientation, Financial Aid, Titan Hub, Scholarship Office, Admissions, Career Center, and Center for Internships and Community Engagement) to lead, create, coordinate, and implement strategic marketing and communication plans for programs and services offered by these departments in accordance with the university’s strategic long term outreach and recruitment plans. The Marketing and Communications Specialist is responsible for the day-to-day oversight, development, and maintenance of marketing, branding, and communication initiatives. Will create, coordinate, and execute the development, writing, and design of all marketing and advertising for both print and web-based publications. Responsible for the development and implementation of all marketing strategies; to promote the College Access and Career Pathways Cluster; and develop and execute effective social media strategies to support the cluster. Create modern infographic reports and on occasion, analyze statistics and data to calculate figures to display in the infographic reports. Create various videos for both on-campus and off-campus partnerships and stakeholders, end-of-semester Thank You videos, and motion graphics animated infographic digital reports, to name a few, to promote the brand and services of Cal State Fullerton (CSUF). Modify and create custom HTML and/or CSS coding for projects for email templates, cluster website and similar projects as needed by departments that encompass the College Access and Career Pathways cluster. Utilize marketing systems such Salesforce or other adopted Customer Relationship Manager (CRM) and the like to help promote programs and services. Oversee the hiring and oversight of Student Assistant Graphic Designer(s). Create above projects for the College Access and Career Pathways cluster- collaborate with the various departments within the cluster to complete cluster goals and projects. This position manages all Salesforce (and/or other Client Relationship Manager CRMs adopted) related initiatives, as well as long-term planning and strategy in communication creation and process improvement. This position develops and configures the Salesforce modules, workflow, forms, fields, views, reports, and dashboards and the daily maintenance of Salesforce via third-party applications/add-ons within Salesforce. The Marketing and Communications Specialist creates and applies departmental brand guidelines and develops printed and digital materials in support of College Access and Career Pathways cluster efforts. Essential Qualifications Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university in a related field and up to two years or related professional or technical experience. Knowledge of the fundamentals of public affairs and/or media relations, as well as some exposure to marketing and marketing research. Possession of strong written and verbal communication skills with a solid foundation in grammar, spelling, and the composition of various communication vehicles. Collaborates closely with the university’s Communication and Public Relations office and the Conferences and Events office to ensure consistency across media communications and compliance with campus events protocols and parameters. Maintains external communication to community partners by curating and distributing a bi-weekly newsletter for the School. The incumbent in the position will assist with hiring, training, and provide work direction to student business and advertising sales staff; ensure vendors such as the printing press are paid and made aware of print schedules and changes; process all student assistants who have been approved by the faculty advisor and editor-in-chief for hiring and train them in proper payroll procedures; create press passes for student media journalists; develop and implement accurate and achievable budgets and bid specifications and. reviews, manage and implement accounting and advertising procedures and policies; invoice advertisers and others; help faculty advisor with contest submissions; act as liaison to the campus community, ensuring cohesive communication with students, faculty and staff; participate in state and regional professional media organizations to promote and improve the operations of the University Times and to network within the professional community to create greater awareness of the University Times; establish advertising rates, policies and procedures based on research of past procedures, comparable universities, and published legal advertising standards and create, review and approve advertising contracts/agreements, including verifying information. such as correct rates, sizes, run dates, calculations, complete and correct information for billing. The manager will also train graphic designers on newspaper and advertisement layout and design best practices. They will ensure the newspaper is distributed the day of arrival in all boxes on campus and oversee live student media events. Required Qualifications & Experience : Bachelor’s degree in business, journalism, or a communications-related field from an accredited higher education institution or equivalent training with an extensive newspaper business background. Minimum three years management experience in the newspaper and digital news industry. Must have knowledge of business, advertising, and production software as well as of circulation procedures of a daily or weekly newspaper across digital platforms. The incumbent must have a demonstrated interest and/or ability in working in a multicultural/multiethnic environment. A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate can be offered a position with the CSU.
