Description The Department: The Parks Division provides planning, development, operation, maintenance, and rehabilitation of City parks and open spaces. The Recreation Division provides classes and programs for all ages and abilities. The Position: Recreation Leader I The Recreation Leader I is an entry level classification in the Recreation Leader series designed for high school students whose skill level in several broad types of recreational activities is sufficient to assume responsibility for an entire recreation program or area. Under immediate supervision, an incumbent is responsible for the promotion, organization, and leadership of a variety of recreation activities. The Recreation Leader I is distinguished from the Recreation Leader II in that the latter is designed for college level students. Recreation Leader III The Recreation Leader III is an advanced-level classification in the Recreation Leader series designed for college students who are skilled in several broad types of recreational activities. Under general supervision, an incumbent in this classification is responsible for the planning, organization, development, and leadership of a specific recreation activity or group of several closely related activities in specialty areas such as athletics/sports, aquatics, drama, arts and crafts, music, dance, therapeutics, nature, and camping . The Recreation Leader III may oversee the work of lower-level personnel and may lead and/or conduct clinics, programs, seminars, and similar gatherings in the specialty area. The Recreation Leader III is distinguished from the Recreation Specialist in that the latter exercises a higher degree of independence and holds greater overall program responsibility. POSITION PURPOSE / IMPORTANT APPLICATION INFORMATION The Seasonal Specialist positions are responsible for a variety of maintenance work including mowing, edging, planting, irrigating, fertilizing, and light construction. These positions work in a variety of areas including Athletic Fields, Greenhouse, Open Space and, Parks, Mechanics, Standley Lake, and the Promenade. These positions are physically demanding in nature with exposure to extreme weather conditions. Most positions work four 10-hour days during the week (Monday through Thursday or Tuesday through Friday) or at Standley Lake (Friday through Monday), however hours may vary with possible weekend, holiday, and special events. Some positions available beginning in March. Most positions will begin after April 14th and last through October 10th. POSITION PURPOSE / IMPORTANT APPLICATION INFORMATION The Seasonal Specialist positions are responsible for a variety of maintenance work including mowing, edging, planting, irrigating, fertilizing, and light construction. Work is primarily performed at/on parks and athletic fields in upkeep and maintenance of City Property. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES When assigned to Parks Maintenance Technician I - $31,881.62 - $46,288.62 Performs a variety of general duties related to the maintenance, upkeep, construction, installation, and repair of City parks, grounds, trails, athletic fields, recreation facilities, buildings, and other City-owned landscaped areas. Operates simple to moderately complex equipment in the construction, operation, repair, maintenance, and replacement of City parks, street trees, street median landscaping, buildings and facilities. Performs grounds maintenance i.e. mowing, weed-eating, edging, blowing, pruning, planting, trimming and sodding. Performs regular and preventative maintenance on assigned equipment. Cleans, clears and disposes of debris and refuse in trash bins and in the landscape from City and municipal properties. Assists in preparations for, and clean-up during and after, special events. Performs maintenance, minor repairs and adjustments to irrigation systems. Assists with minor plumbing and irrigation work as needed. When Assigned to Parks Maintenance Technician II - $33,954.75 - $49,234.02 Duties of Level I carry over, in addition to: Assists in complex irrigation maintenance and repairs. Performs minor plumbing and irrigation work as needed. Performs regular and preventative maintenance and minor repairs on equipment. Operates and maintains complex equipment including large mowers, tractors, backhoes, skid steers, dump trucks, bucket trucks and aerial lifts. When assigned to Parks Maintenance Technician III - $35,868.56 - $52,726.13 Duties of Level I & II carry over, in addition to: Installs, schedules, and assists in complex irrigation maintenance and repairs, and performs system checks. Operates equipment in the maintenance of athletic fields. Performs painting, cleaning, maintenance and repair on municipal property, play structures, buildings and pools. Applies fertilizers and herbicides using manual and small motorized machinery. Performs minor plumbing repairs. Performs concrete installations. Assists with bulb replacement and minor electrical work under supervision of a Parks Maintenance Specialist and/or Supervisor. Operates chainsaws and stump grinders in the maintenance and removal of trees and bushes. OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS: Perform other duties as assigned or directed.
