Salary: $132,600.00 - $205,504.00 Annually
ABOUT THE POSITION
Responsible for the investigation of sudden, unexpected or violent death within the County within all applicable state laws and County regulations.
Salary is negotiable based on experience and education/certifications.
This examination will establish an Open Competitive and Promotional list to fill current and/or future vacancies that may occur within the next six (6) months or may be extended as needed by the Office of Human Resources.
Note:A RESUME IS REQUIRED FOR THIS POSITION. Scoring to determine placement on the eligibility list may be determined by the information included on the resume. Areas evaluated may include, education, licensing and certification, experience performing autopsies and conducting pathological and toxicologicalanalyses.
Education and Experience: Minimum of one (1) year of full-time professional physician's experience in a coroner or medical examiner's office.
Qualifying education and experience must be clearly documented in the "Education" and "Work Experience" sections of the application. Do not substitute a resume for your application or write "see attached resume" on your application.
Licensing and Certification:At time of application, must have completed an anatomic pathology residency AND completed or currently in a forensic pathology fellowship in an accredited program. At time of appointment, must have a valid licensesto practice medicine in the State of Nevada. At time of appointment, candidate must be board certified or eligible in anatomic and forensic pathology by the American Board of Pathology. If eligible, must complete all board certifications within two years of hire date. Board certification must be maintained throughout the course of employment. Possession of valid Nevada Class C driver's license at time of appointment.

Working Conditions: Work with exposure to infectious and contagious diseases. Work in violent, traumatic or highly charged emotional environments. Work in off-hours situations on an emergency call-out basis.
Background Investigation: Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a background investigation. Periodically after employment background investigations may be conducted.
Pre-Employment Drug Testing: Employment is contingent upon the results of a pre-employment drug examination.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
Performs examination of human bodies in order to determine the cause and manner of death through varied sources of information as well as the performance of autopsy. Performs and supervises laboratory work. Assists law enforcement agencies in search operations, excavations and recovery of bodies. Examines scenes of death/crime. Provides expert testimony in legal proceedings related to deaths. Provides instruction to nurses, paramedics, law enforcement personnel and others by lecture and demonstration. Assists in the selection, training, and professional development of staff. Represents the County in various activities and meets with the public in both public and private agencies, governmental entities and the general public. Assists in directing emergency responses to disasters that require coroner services. Contributes to the overall quality of the department's service provision by developing and coordinating work teams and by reviewing, recommending and implementing improved policies and procedures. Operates a motor vehicle to drive to crime scenes and disasters and to attend meetings.

Vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; and hearing and speech to communicate in person or over the telephone.
