About the Position The DCD Director reports to the County Administrator, who manages BOCC Departments on behalf of the Board. The role has both outward-facing and internally focused elements. First, the Director serves as the face of the department to the community, engaging with community stakeholders over key planning and land use initiatives. Position Summary Under the supervision of the Medical Director, this position will be responsible for the provision of efficient, cost-effective medical care to SDSU student-patients. Position Summary Under the supervision of the Medical Director, this position will be responsible for the provision of efficient, cost-effective medical care to SDSU student-patients. The physician is a licensed, highly skilled health care practitioner who provides a wide range of primary health care services within a student health center including assessment and management of acute, episodic and chronic diseases as well as performing preventive and health maintenance services. PURPOSE : Under the general supervision of the Dean of the College of Extended Education & International Programs, the Academic Advisor performs complex professional student services work. The Academic Advisor is responsible for performing work that supports the recruitment, admissions, and support services for International Students. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to, the following : 1. The Academic Advisor is responsible for the admissions, advising and registration for a diverse international student population, as well as the coordination of sponsor programs. The Advisors is responsible for connecting with international students to provide appropriate academic advising, in all aspects of university life including academic/ personal advising, employment options and success planning to support students in reaching their academic goals, and providing support and advocacy for students who need additional support. The Advisor independently evaluates course and credit completion, creates individual learning plans, reviews academic coursework, coordinates and monitors course enrollment forms assists students with course selection and course registration, refers students to campus resources and services as needed. The advisor works extensively with various campus partners including, Admissions, Registrar, Financial Aid, Student Affairs, Academic Advising, Health & Wellness Services to ensure support services. The Advisor also serves as a Designated School Official (DSO) and Alternate Responsible Officer (ARO), issuing I20s and DS2019 as needed, and confirming enrollment requirements to maintain immigrations status. 2. The Advisor serves as the liaison with global CSUMB educational partners for International Programs’ academic programs. In collaboration with academic departments, program directors and the Dean of EEIP, develops programs and ensures appropriate course offerings for international students. Collaborates with academic departments for prerequisites confirmation, and course availability. Maintains updated course syllabi files, and facilitates course specific questions with academic departments and faculty as needed. Communicates and works with international partners in regards to course offerings, prerequisites confirmation and transcripts. Works with the student success team to facilitate back on track, and conducts academic check-ins to monitor progress. Generates enrollment reports, and grade reports as needed. 3. Assists in promoting special events and activities including program orientation, presentations, workshops, recruitment, showcases, and open houses, in coordination with other EEIP Staff. Coordinates the development of the global alumni network, ensuring that all international student graduates are regularly contacted. Increases public awareness of international programs and activities. Coordinates with the EEIP Marketing team to update all academic International Programs info on the website, and university catalog. Updates informational documents and program materials. Other Functions : Performs other job-related duties and special projects as assigned. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Working knowledge of the principles of individual and group behavior; procedures and activities of the program to which assigned; general knowledge of the methods and problems of organizational and program management. General knowledge of research and interview techniques; and of the principles of individual and group behavior. Ability to interpret and apply program rules and regulations; use initiative and resourcefulness in planning work assignments and in implementing long-range program improvements; obtain factual and interpretative information through interviews; reason logically; collect, compile, analyze and evaluate data and make verbal or written presentations based on these data; advise students individually and in groups on routine matters where required; recognize multicultural, multisexed and multi-aged value systems and work accordingly; establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with faculty, CSU administrators, student organizations, private and public agencies and others in committee work, and student advising and community contacts; and, rapidly acquire a general knowledge of the overall operation, functions and programs of the campus to which assigned. Demonstrated ability to make decisions and carry through actions having implications with regard to other program or service areas Services Office. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS : Experience: Possession of these knowledge and abilities is typically demonstrated through the equivalent of three years of progressively responsible professional student services work experience. A master’s degree in Counseling, Clinical Psychology, Social Work, Education or a directly related field may be substituted for one year of experience. A doctorate degree and the appropriate internship or clinical training in counseling or guidance may be substituted for the three years of experience for positions with a major responsibility for professional career or personal counseling. One year of direct experience in event management, event coordination, or event planning. Education: Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in a related field, including or supplemented by upper division or graduate coursework in counseling techniques, interviewing, and conflict resolution where such are job-related. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS/DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE : Knowledge of SEVIS procedures and processes. Working knowledge of all visa regulations. Expertise in providing guidance to international students throughout the visa application process, preparing required documents and academic advising. Master’s degree in International Education, Adult Education, Higher Education or related field. Excellent customer service, information literacy, and critical thinking skills. Exceptional ability to communicate verbally and in writing in a professional, persuasive, and tactful manner. Strong interpersonal skills. General knowledge of the methods and problems of organizational and project management. A sincere desire to assist students in general and international students in particular. Technical fluency with Oracle/PeopleSoft, CSU Common Management System or equivalent student / finance information systems; Microsoft Office Professional Suite, and Google's G Suite.
