DEFINITION:
Assists laboratory personnel in the performance of standard laboratory tests on human and other specimens or assigns, trains, and reviews the work of a group of lower-level laboratory positions.
Essential Job Functions
Responds to telephone inquiries regarding laboratory test results and routes technical inquires to higher level personnel.

Maintains laboratory supplies and equipment by cleaning stain set-ups and filters; refresh or replace solutions according to department policies and procedures.

Provides technical direction to a group of lower-level laboratory positions by assigningand reviewing their work to ensure efficient unit operation, and informs supervisor of their performance.

Trains personnel in the performance of lower-level laboratory work, and resolves scheduling, work assignment, technical and operational problems within established guidelines.
Requirements
SELECTION REQUIREMENTS:

OPTION I: Six (6)months' experience in laboratory work in a public health, medical or biological laboratory.

OPTION II: *Completion of an accredited college level course in a laboratory science such as general Chemistry or Bacteriology.

PHYSICAL CLASS III - Moderate:
Includes standing or walking most of the time, with bending, stooping, squatting, twisting, and reaching; includes working on irregular surfaces, occasionally lifting objects weighting over 25 pounds, and frequent lifting of 10-25 pounds.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENT INFORMATION:
*In order to qualify under Option II of the Selection Requirements, you must include a legible copy of your official transcripts to verify proof of completion of the required courses with your application at the time of filing or within fifteen (15) calendar days from filing online.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
  • A Bachelor's Degree* or higher from an accredited college or university in Clinical Laboratory Science, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Biology, or Chemistry.
*In order to receivecredit for the Bachelor Degree in the Desirable Qualifications, you must include a legible copy of the official diploma or official transcripts from the accreditation institutionwhich shows the area of specialization with your application at the time of filing or fax the copy of degree to us within fifteen (15) calendar days from the date of filing your application online.

Examination Content:
This examination will consist of an evaluation of training, experience, and desirable qualifications based upon your application information, weighted 100%

Candidates must achieve a passing score of 70% or higher on the examination in order to be placed on the eligible register.

Eligibility Information:

Applications will be processed on an "as-received" basis and those receiving a passing score will be promulgated to the eligible register accordingly.

The names of candidates receiving a passing score on the examination will be added to the eligible register and will appear in the order of their score group for a period of six (6) months following the date of eligibility.

No person may compete in this examination more than once every six (6) months.

Special Information:
Appointees may be required to work any shift including evenings, nights, weekends and holidays.

Vacancy Information:
