Position Description

The School of Public Health and Health Sciences at California State University, Dominguez Hills (CSUDH) invites applications for two (2) Tenure-track positions at the rank of Assistant Professor (Academic Year) with the appointment starting in Fall 2024.

The Position

There are two open positions that are academic year tenure-track at the rank of Assistant Professor of Public Health and Health Sciences beginning August 2024. Candidates are sought with a doctorate in health administration or a closely-related field.

Job duties include the following:
  • Teaching, supporting, and developing a wide range of courses in healthcare management (typically up to 12 units per semester), which includes interest and excellence in fostering inclusive and equitable learning experiences as well as sound assessment practices that reflect course learning outcomes and promote student success.

Teaching duties may consist of day, evening, weekend, and/or online classes in both the current undergraduate and planned graduate programs. Teaching areas can include but are not limited to healthcare operations / process management, human resources management, healthcare information systems, health law, health policy, healthcare economics, healthcare financial management, healthcare marketing, quality and performance management, quantitative analysis and decision making, health analytics, GIS, long-term and post-acute care, and project management.

Providing academic advising and career mentoring to a diverse population of students.
  • Developing and maintaining a productive agenda in research, scholarly, and creative activities.
  • Seeking internal and/or external funding to support research, teaching, or laboratory development.
  • Taking an active role on school, college, and university committees.
  • Participating in diverse professional and community service activities.


Qualifications

Required Qualifications
  • Applicants must have experience in working with students from diverse age, socioeconomic, cultural, and academic backgrounds.
  • Primary consideration will be given to candidates with an earned doctorate in health administration. Consideration will also be given to candidates with a doctorate in a closely-related field to health administration (e.g., business administration, public administration, public health administration, medical sociology) and with expertise in health administration. If the doctorate is in progress, it must be completed before the start date of employment.
  • Applicants must provide evidence of teaching potential in healthcare management.
  • Applicants must provide evidence of scholarly potential in healthcare management through peer-reviewed publications, presentations, grants, or creative works.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Current or recent engagement in the field of healthcare management;
  • Experience in one or more of the following teaching areas: developing curriculum, developing course materials, creating / adapting educational technology applications, developing pedagogical innovations and inquiries;
  • Experience in one or more of the following scholarship areas: grant-writing, mentorship of students engaged in research.

The School of Public Health and Health Sciences has over 500 majors and is housed within the College of Health, Human Services, and Nursing. This dynamic and rapidly growing program offers a B.S. degree in Health Science with concentrations in community health, healthcare management, and radiologic technology. A master’s degree program is currently under development for implementation within the next few years.

Additional Information

The Assistant Professor (Academic Year) classification salary range is $5,405 to $11,994 per month (12 monthly payments per academic year); The anticipated hiring salary is $6,900 to $7,125. This position will be commensurate with experience and current CSUDH faculty salaries in the academic department/discipline. Faculty salaries are subject to budgetary authorization and any California State University System faculty contract increases. Summer research grants, moving expenses, start-up funds, and a reduced teaching load may be available.
