Provides technical consultation to physicians in the assessment and evaluation of patients with serious respiratory problems to provide alternative modalities of care. Observes the quality and quantity of respiratory care services being performed within an assigned area; checks the status of treatment orders and the condition of equipment in use and communicates with nursing and medical personnel concerning such things as interdisciplinary relationships and patient problems. Administers complex therapies, such as Inhaled Nitric Oxide (INO therapy), high frequency ventilation, and heliox therapy, and performs Non-Bronchoscopic mini-BALprocedures to provide a non-bronchoscopic method of attaining a sample of bonchoalveolar fluid in the mechanically ventilated patient for the diagnosis of ventilator associated pneumonia (VAP). Under limited direction, the Veterinarian is responsible for all medical treatments and surgical services performed at the City’s Animal Care Services shelter; provides medical care and treatment of impounded animals; trains and oversees the work of non-professional staff who assist with animal health or euthanasia procedures; represents the City on the care and treatment of animals and pets. IDEAL CANDIDATE STATEMENT The ideal candidate will have experience working in a large municipal animal shelter or non-profit that provides animal shelter services to a municipal organization. The ideal candidate will have experience providing high-quality veterinary care and spay and neuter services to shelter animals. The ideal candidate will have experience in providing knowledge and guidance to other shelter personnel, volunteers, and community members regarding veterinary care for shelter animals housed in the shelter and volunteer foster homes. DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS This is a single position management classification in the Animal Services Division of the General Services Department. What You'll Be Doing Paramedics are the primary provider of prompt, compassionate and clinically excellent emergency medical care to the sick and injured residents of and visitors to Wake County. Paramedics are responsible for the operation of emergency vehicles, biomedical equipment and other equipment necessary to provide patient and situational assessment, treatment and transport in an emergency setting. Physical Requirements: During the first week of the Wake County EMS New Hire Academy, Paramedic, AEMT and EMT Recruits must demonstrate a minimum level of physical ability and fitness by successfully completing the Wake County EMS Physical Ability Test (EMS-PAT). Incumbent employees, in any position which have field response as part of their job duties, must successfully complete the EMS-PAT annually. The purpose of this physical test is to simulate and evaluate an employee’s ability to perform the minimum physical requirements of the job. The test is performed solo (i.e., tasks that would traditionally require two employees have been modified so they can be completed by one employee), the events are performed continuously and there is a time limit of 7 minutes and 5 seconds. The events in the test consist of unbuckling a seatbelt and exiting a vehicle from the driver’s seat; stretcher lift simulation (using a 95-lb curl bar); stretcher movement with equipment 100ft (50ft down and 50ft back) over curb stops bolt to the floor; stretcher stair carry simulation (using a 95-lb curl bar); equipment lift and place; equipment movement/transfer (which includes kneeling 8 times); patient drag (using a 150-lb manikin strapped to a backboard) a total of 100ft; chest compressions (2 minutes of chest compressions at a rate of 120 a minute); repeat stretcher movement; climbing into the back of ambulance through side door. What You'll Be Doing Paramedics are the primary provider of prompt, compassionate and clinically excellent emergency medical care to the sick and injured residents of and visitors to Wake County. Submit purchase requests for materials and tools via an Oracle network system. Monitor spare parts and daily expendables inventory.
