PURPOSE : Reporting directly to the Assistant Vice President of Enrollment Management, the Director of Admissions and Recruitment manages and evaluates programs, personnel, and budget for the Admissions Office. The Director establishes working partnerships with campus and off-campus community members to ensure the university meets its enrollment goals and objectives. Maintains and implements working knowledge of current trends and best practices in undergraduate recruitment. Works collaboratively with the Director of New Student Programs to support campus visitation programs and campus events for prospective students, parents, and high school and community college counselors. Maintains effective relationships with high schools and community colleges that facilitate student transitions. Directly oversees undergraduate and graduate admission application processing, to include the following duties: Oversees the development and implementation of procedures that ensure timely processing of admission applications. Reviews admission policy for appropriateness to University goals, recruitment, and efficient application processing. Recommends policy changes to appropriate decision-making groups. Coordinates processing of applications for specific student groups with appropriate University departments, e.g., academic units, the Graduate School, the Educational Opportunities Program, the Office of International Education, and Intercollegiate Athletics. Position Summary Under the supervision of the Assistant Director of the Center for Commuter Life, the incumbent will develop and implement advising and programs that facilitate growth in the areas of scholarship, personal and leadership development, citizenship, mentorship, and campus engagement. The incumbent will provide guidance and mentoring, through programming and advising efforts, to commuter students at SDSU. The Commuter Life General Advisor and Retention Specialist / Advising Training Coordinator will: Provide academic and holistic advising to commuter students at San Diego State University. If needed, referrals to campus resources will be provided. Implement initiatives to improve communications to students, through in-person presentations/workshops and web-based/online technology. Facilitate student success through program/workshop development and/or implementation. Provide support for students experiencing concerns regarding academic advisement, course selection, and degree evaluation. Provide guidance and personal counseling related to self-awareness, personal growth and academic probation that facilitates the continuation of students towards degree goals. Work closely with the Office of Advising and Evaluations and/or individual Colleges to provide guidance to students that depend on their curriculum. Provide support for, and supervision of the Commuter Resource Center, including undergraduate peer mentors, in order to ensure that commuter students receive the appropriate advising necessary to efficiently progress through the major/pre-major and graduate in a timely manner. Position Summary Under the supervision of the Assistant Director of the Center for Commuter Life, the incumbent will develop and implement advising and programs that facilitate growth in the areas of scholarship, personal and leadership development, citizenship, mentorship, and campus engagement.
