Qualifications The ideal candidate will possess any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:
The completion of the twelfth (12th) grade, with college level coursework in environmental science, cultural history, or related fields;
Passion for environmental education and telling the story of conservation in the Santa Clara Valley;
Excellent customer service and public speaking skills;
Ability to work a flexible schedule including nights and weekends;
Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid California Driver’s License by time of appointment;
This position requires the willingness and ability to work outdoors in rugged terrain, leading hikes, walking over rough, hilly, uneven or unpaved ground and with exposure to natural elements;
Must possess the ability to lift and carry materials weighing up to 50 pounds;

Compensation & Benefits The salary range for this full-time, non-exempt position is $35.69 to $43.38 hourly, depending on experience and qualifications. We participate in CalPERS retirement programs as well as offering a separate 457 Plan for tax deferred retirement savings. Don B. Huntley College of Agriculture : The Don B. Huntley College of Agriculture offers a variety of applied science programs in Agricultural Science, Animal Health Science, Animal Science, Food Science & Technology, Nutrition Science and Dietetics, and Plant Science, as well as management and technology programs in Agribusiness & Food Industry Management and Apparel Merchandising & Management. Department of Nutrition and Food Science : Established in 1965 under the name “Foods and Nutrition”, the department’s current name is Nutrition and Food Science (NFS). Our mission is to support a creative and innovative environment to prepare a diverse group of baccalaureate and post-baccalaureate students through a learn-by-doing approach for careers in the nutrition and food science professions for the benefit of society. Our vision is to be a nationally recognized center of excellence in producing nutrition and food science leaders as well as creating and disseminating knowledge in collaboration with alumni, community, government and industry. Since its inception the department has offered a Bachelor of Science degree in Foods and Nutrition - now called Nutrition, currently with options in Dietetics; Nutrition and Health and Nutrition Science. Since 1999, the department has been offering a Bachelor of Science degree in Food Science and Technology (FST), currently with a Science and Technology option, a Culinology ® option and a general option with emphasis in Plant Based Foods and Nutrition, Business and Pre-professional. The NFS department also offers a Master of Science in Agriculture under the Nutrition and Food Science option and a post-baccalaureate Dietetic Internship Program. Position description : Teaching : The new faculty member will be expected to teach and develop a selection of undergraduate and graduate level courses within the Food Science & Technology (FST) curriculum, including but not limited to: Undergraduate lecture and laboratory courses such as Food Process Engineering, Unit Operations in Food Processing, Food Packaging, and Food Product Development. Graduate courses such as Advanced Topics in Food Science; and other courses that may be developed by the new faculty member within their expertise. Research/Scholarship : The new faculty member will be expected to produce and develop a record of research/scholarly activities, defined as securing internal and external funding, authoring publications and contributions, commensurate with their area of expertise related to Food Processing with Innovative Technologies. The new faculty member will be expected to supervise undergraduate and graduate research projects. Collaborations in projects with the local food industry are also expected. Service : The new faculty member will be expected to participate in undergraduate student advising. Committee service to the Department, College and University levels will also be expected. The new faculty member will participate in departmental service including curriculum development, program assessment and development, service to the college and university, as well as active participation in Food Science professional societies. The workload is based primarily on teaching; however, faculty are also expected to seek external funding to secure assigned (release) time for research/scholarly activities. Assigned (release) time will be provided during the first two years of the appointment towards class preparation and development of research/scholarly agenda.
