Vacation & Sick Leave At the City of Buckeye, we understand the vital role that vacation time plays in supporting the mental, physical, and emotional well-being of our employees. Vacation and sick leave accruals begin on the first day of employment and may be used upon accrual. Additionally,
employees receive credit towards vacation leave accruals for years of service with other public sector retirement systems nationwide (not including Federal service). Holidays The City of Buckeye observes eleven holidays per year: New Years Day, Martin Luther King Day, Presidents Day, Memorial Day, Juneteenth, Independence Day, Labor Day, Veteran's Day, Thanksgiving and the day after Thanksgiving, and Christmas Day.
Retirement This position participates in the Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS). Contribution is mandatory, and the current contribution rate is 12%, per fiscal year.
Primary Duties and ResponsibilitiesGENERAL PURPOSE: Under general supervision, this position performs a variety of clerical accounting functions that apply basic principles of accounting in support of accounting systems for assigned areas of function such as cash receipting, accounts receivable, accounts payable, and Community Facility Districts. An employee in this position must be familiar with accounts maintenance practices associated with their functional areas as well as be familiar with accounting concepts and principles, have the ability to explain and interpret information, ensure deadlines are met, and work independently.

- Reviews and verifies invoices and check requests; sorts, codes and matches invoices, enters invoices for payment into the City’s financial system
- Receives, prepares and enters data to record and process accounts receivables; prepares and issues account statements and collection letters for both General Billing and CFD.
- Performs the end-of-day procedures for cash receipting and balancing all related documentation to the General Ledger
- Distributes and processes returned checks from customers for both Munis and EnerGov payments.
- Performs administrative duties such as updating various reports and records, preparing routine correspondence and completes filing associated with the position
- Reviews source documents for compliance with rules and regulations; determines proper handling of financial and technical transactions within designated limit
- Enters data into computer systems; processes transactions, compiles documentation, and generates reports in support of accounting systems for assigned areas of function such as cash receipting, accounts receivable and accounts payable.
- Provides information and assistance to visitors and others having business with the City; assists customers with applications, government forms and other documents as needed; answers phones; responds to requests for information within the span of authority
- Performs other duties as assigned or required.
Minimum Qualifications & Position RequirementsEducation and Experience: Associate’s Degree in accounting or related field preferred and four year’s general accounting experience; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience. Prefer experience with fund accounting and/or governmental accounting.
Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:Knowledge of:- City policies and procedures

- Maintaining accurate financial records and identifying and reconciling errors
- Reviewing financial documents and calculations, preparing basic financial reports

- Manage and execute multiple tasks
- Perform general ledger entries
- Prepare, maintain and proof a variety of financially related reports
- Apply and explain applicable policies and/or procedures, laws, codes or regulations
- Interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form
12 Month Goals:- Gain full proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Munis General Billing, Tyler Cashiering).
- Understand and accurately perform daily EOD balancing procedures
- Maintain a consistent error-free record in EOD balancing and journal entries.
- Track and follow up on outstanding receivables monthly to reduce aging balances.
- Provide timely and accurate responses to internal and external customers regarding billing and payments.
