THE POSITIONProperty Technician

Please note that the job posting may close without prior notice. - Receive, inventory, mark, maintain, and control all evidence and property, including hazardous items such as weapons, narcotics, blood and urine samples, and a wide variety of property and physical evidence.
- Logs all property, including identifying information such as model, serial number, and crime report number.
- Maintain logs and records of property in custody, including current status and location of property, and related records.
- Prepare articles for the monthly auction, including determining if items have any potential value, and the preparation of an inventory list for approval by the supervisor.
- Prepares evidence and other property for destruction, return to the owner, or auction after receipt of authorization from investigating detail or court.
- Releases property to authorized persons in accordance with State laws and departmental procedures.
- Transport, store, photograph, release, or destroy property as directed.
- Maintains all records related to the above duties.
- Performs related duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements:Any combination equivalent to training and experience that could likely provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities would be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge, skills, and abilities would be: high school graduation or equivalent and one year of recordkeeping work experience, preferably in law enforcement or a public agency.
License and Certificates:Possession of a valid California Class C driver license is required at time of appointment.
EXAMINATION PROCEDURESApplicants must receive a passing score on all examination components in order to be placed on the eligible list.
Examination Components:- Written Examination: To measure reading comprehension, basic recordkeeping principles, simple mathematical calculations, and/or the ability to utilize a personal computer at a basic office level. (Tentatively scheduled during the week of September 15, 2025).
- Appraisal Interview: To evaluate training, experience, and personal qualifications. (Tentatively scheduled during the week of October 6, 2025).
- Background Investigation and Polygraph: To determine suitability for the position.
- Psychological Screening & Medical Examination: Standard exams to determine suitability for the position.
