    Position Summary

    The Fowler College of Business is seeking a detail-oriented and collaborative Department Coordinator to support the Department of Finance, Management, and Marketing. This position plays a key leadership role in ensuring the department office runs smoothly and efficiently.

    Key Responsibilities:
    • Administrative Support: Provide high-level administrative support to the department chairs of Finance, Management, and Marketing.
    • Team Leadership: Lead and coordinate the work of administrative support assistants and student assistants.
    • Office Management: Oversee the day-to-day operations of the department office.
    • Policy Compliance: Interpret and apply a wide range of university policies and procedures to ensure compliance.
    • Communication Hub: Serve as the primary point of contact for internal and external stakeholders interacting with the department.

    Position Information
    • This is a full-time (1.0 time-base), benefits eligible, permanent/probationary position.
    • This position is designated non-exempt under FLSA and is eligible for overtime compensation.
    • Standard SDSU work hours are Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but may vary based on operational needs.
    • The individual hired into this role will work on campus at SDSU in San Diego.

    Department Summary

    The Fowler College of Business (FCB) consists of one school and four academic departments (Charles W. Lamden School of Accountancy, Finance, Management Information Systems, Management, and Marketing), a Dean, an Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, an Associate Dean for Research and Strategic Initiatives, an Assistant Dean for Student Affairs, a College Operations Manager/Director of Resource Management, a Director of Marketing & Communications, a Director for Graduate Programs, a Director for Undergraduate Programs, a Director for the Partrick-Clayes Center for Career Development, a Director for Assessment, and a Managing Director for the Wendy Gillespie Center for Advancing Global Business.

    The Department of Finance at San Diego State University offers undergraduate specializations in the areas of Finance, Financial Services, and Real Estate. Graduate programs are available in Finance and Financial & Tax Planning. Career opportunities for finance graduates include positions with business and nonprofit organizations in financial management, protection of assets, client services, evaluation and selection of securities for investment portfolios and loan management, financial and estate planning along with wealth management, and real estate services, development and property management. The Department supports research in real estate, financial management, financial planning, and investments.

    Education and Experience

    Entry to this classification requires a fully functional knowledge of and skill in standard office procedures and practices, as well as an ability to understand and operate in a variety of organizational structures. Additionally, incumbents are expected to have a thorough knowledge of English grammar, spelling, and punctuation and be able to clearly communicate orally and in writing. Some positions may require a knowledge of business mathematics beyond basic arithmetic. The ability to use and quickly learn new office support technology systems and software packages is also a prerequisite.

    These qualifications would normally be obtained through a high school program, technical/vocational program, or their equivalents combined with several years of related office work experience.

    Key Qualifications
    • Experience in an academic setting.
    • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel.
    • Experience using Oracle, PeopleSoft, Adaptive, and MyRF.
    • Experience with progressively responsible office or administrative experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
    • Experience as an administrative coordinator, particularly within SDSU, the CSU system, or similar higher education environments is preferred.

    Compensation and Benefits

    Starting salary upon appointment is not expected to exceed $4,251 per month.

    Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department’s fiscal resources.

    CSU Classification Salary Range: $4,058 - $6,653 per month.
