    TEMPORARY END DATE: This position is temporary and ends on or before June 30, 2026. Any continuation beyond June 30, 2026 is contingent upon satisfactory performance and available funding.

    FT/PT: Full-time

    PAY PLAN: 12-month

    WORKPLACE TYPE: On-site (work in-person at business location)

    ANTICIPATED HIRING RANGE: $3,680 - $4,200
    • However, offer amount will be commensurate with candidate’s experience, education, skills, and training.

    CSU CLASSIFICATION SALARY RANGE: $3,680 - $5,955

    PAY BASIS: Monthly

    POSITION PURPOSE: Within the Business and Administrative Services Division, Facilities Management is responsible for the continued maintenance of campus facilities and grounds, for providing services in a reasonable and timely manner, and for maintaining a quality-oriented organization geared toward the enhancement of the educational environment.

    Under the general supervision of the Custodial Manager, the Laborer performs general, unskilled manual labor including moving and setting up furniture and equipment for special events and space relocations, assisting with custodial services, and maintaining campus facilities. This position ensures a safe, clean, and functional environment by adhering to proper safety practices, operating vehicles and equipment, and maintaining accurate records of work performed.

    DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Campus Special Events & Space Moves
    • Externally coordinate Facility Services’ support with special event planners and service requestors by determining logistical needs, timelines, and required equipment to ensure seamless event execution.
    • Internally coordinate Facility Services within CFMS supporting special events and moves by collaborating with team members, assigning tasks, and tracking progress using work order systems.
    • Deliver, pickup, set-up, and relocate furniture and other equipment for special campus events, space moves, and as required ensuring proper handling and placement per event or department specifications.
    • Assist with packing and transporting campus personnel personal and office items in support of during relocations, ensuring safe handling and proper labeling to prevent damage or loss.
    • Set-up, assemble, disassemble and repair modular and other systems furniture using appropriate hand and power tools to ensure functionality and structural integrity.
    • Arrange for and complete minor repairs and adjustments to equipment and furniture, including oiling door hinges, tightening screws, replacing feet on tables and chairs, and addressing general wear and tear issues to maintain usability.
    • In accordance with campus policy and legal requirements, work with CSUB’s Asset Manager to coordinate disposal, repurposing, or recycling of excess or outdated items.
    • Operate campus vehicles less than 26,000 pounds gross vehicle weight to transport furniture and materials. Operate other equipment such as forklifts to assist with heavy lifting and placement of items.
    • Implement and adhere to safe working practices, including proper lifting techniques, use of personal protective equipment (PPE), and compliance with safety regulations to prevent workplace injuries.
    • Maintain secure, safe, and orderly shop and yard spaces by organizing tools, equipment, and materials, ensuring proper storage of materials, and disposing of waste according to safety guidelines.
    • Assist in maintaining an inventory of event and moving equipment, ensuring that all necessary tools and materials are available and in good working condition.

    Custodial Support
    • Provide custodial services for special events, space moves, and routine campus maintenance, including cleaning and sanitizing assigned areas to maintain a hygienic environment throughout campus facilities.
    • Perform restroom maintenance by disinfecting surfaces, restocking supplies, and ensuring fixtures are in working order to uphold sanitation standards. Clean and maintain campus floors, including sweeping, mopping, polishing, stripping, sealing, waxing, vacuuming, spot cleaning, etc.
    • Replace lighting bulbs and conduct basic lighting maintenance as needed, reporting issues that require electrician intervention.
    • Inspect and ensure equipment used in performance of assigned duties is safe and maintained. Perform basic troubleshooting and report issues requiring repair or replacement.
    • Implement and adhere to safe working practices, including proper handling of cleaning chemicals, use of PPE, and compliance with safety regulations to maintain a hazard-free work environment.
    • Maintain secure, safe, and orderly shop and yard spaces, by organizing tools, equipment, and materials, ensuring proper storage of materials, and disposing of waste according to safety guidelines.
    • Assist with emergency response cleanup, including water leaks, spills, and post-event cleaning, to quickly restore affected areas.
    • Remove and haul waste and recyclables from designated areas, including event sites, office spaces, and campus grounds, following proper disposal and recycling procedures.
    • Provide lead custodial support in the absence of the Lead Custodians by assisting with assigning and monitoring custodial tasks, ensuring compliance with work orders, monitoring adherence to safety protocols, and providing guidance and feedback to custodial staff.

    Planning & Record Keeping
    • Maintain and keep current records and logs related to assigned duties, ensuring accurate documentation for tracking and reporting purposes.
    • Report identified facility repairs and maintenance needs, documenting issues in work order systems and following up on necessary repairs to ensure timely resolution.
    • Assist in the development of facility and systems preventive maintenance program by providing input on recurring maintenance needs, scheduling tasks, and implementing improvements.
    • Maintain and keep current computerized maintenance management system, ensuring accurate tracking of work orders, labor hours, and material usage.
    • Prepare standard reports detailing work performed, materials used, and time spent on tasks to support departmental planning and budgeting.
    • Retrieve data related to work performed using manual and/or computerized record-keeping systems.
    • Use computerized maintenance management systems to ensure assigned objectives are met.
    • Assist in estimating maintenance and repair cost, time, and materials for projects by gathering information on labor, supplies, and equipment needed for various tasks.

    LICENSES - Possession of a valid driver’s license or the ability to obtain by date of hire.

    SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & ABILITIES (SKA’s) -
    • Regular and reliable attendance is required.
    • Ability to read and write at a level appropriate to the duties of the position.
    • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions to ensure safety.
    • Ability to perform regular strenuous manual labor and safely move heavy items in excess of 50 pounds.

    • Computer skills and competence with a variety of computer applications including word-processing, spreadsheets,
    • databases, on-line systems, Internet as well as online calendaring and email.
    • Working knowledge of or ability to quickly learn University infrastructure.
    • Must be willing to travel and attend training programs off-site for occasional professional development.
    • Must be able to work overtime, occasional holidays, and adjust working hours to meet special jobs. May be called back periodically to perform work as needed on an emergency basis.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
    • High School diploma or equivalent.
    • Two (2) years of recent experience in industrial or educational custodial work. Working knowledge of the methods,
    • chemicals, and equipment used in custodial work and of the safety and sanitation practices and measures.
    • Demonstrate effective lead/supervisory practices and techniques.
    • Demonstrated skills in an institutional/educational environment possessing a customer-oriented and service-centered attitude.

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS: HEAVY WORK - 50% or more of the activities involve walking, standing, squatting, kneeling or climbing; lifting heavy weight objects which may exceed 50 pounds.

    SPECIAL CONDITIONS:
