Supervising Correctional Nurse I is a first level supervisory position, who provides assistance and support to the Supervising Correctional Nurse II as well as assist with the scheduling and assignment of healthcare personnel, reviews and assists with contractual concerns, prepares and signs work performance evaluations and provides recommendations in the hiring and disciplinary actions. The incumbent assists, trains, and supervises health care staff; participates and provides recommendations in hiring and disciplinary actions. Acts as the liaison with detention staff, hospitals and other medical agencies; performs quality improvement audits in collaboration with the Quality Management Specialist; responds to emergencies throughout the facility. The position assists to ensure the highest degree of clinical and operational performance in health services; coordinates the work, and trains the professional healthcare staff.

General Unit - Benefits Summary Guide . CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT Background: Successful candidates must not have been convicted of a felony and must successfully pass an extensive background investigation including a polygraph and live scan.
Physical Demands: Requires physical agility and mobility, hand dexterity, good vision and hearing; lifting and carrying of up to ten (10) pounds. Working conditions involve exposure to infectious materials.
Travel: A valid California Class C Driver License is required to carry out the essential job-related functions of this position. Mileage reimbursement and proof of automobile liability insurance must be maintained.

Minimum RequirementsLicense: Must possess and maintain a current license as a Registered Nurse with the State of California
andmust possess current CPR Certification.

Experience: Option 1: One (1) year of experience as a Lead/Charge Nurse AND six (6) months experience working in a locked correctional facility .
- OR-
Option 2: Two (2) years of experience working as a Correctional Nurse II.
Desired QualificationsThe ideal candidate will have five (5) years of experience as a Registered Nurse in an acute setting with a minimum of one (1) year as a lead correctional nurse. This person will be highly organized with exceptional interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to multi-task, think critically, analyze and process critical information, negotiate and resolve conflicts, as well as develop and implement processes to improve healthcare services offered.
