    The Statistics Department in the College of Science and Mathematics at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, is seeking to hire full-time lecturers for two-year contracts, with appointments beginning September 11, 2025 and ending approximately May 21, 2027. Rank and salary are commensurate with qualifications and experience. The anticipated hiring range for a finalist with a master's degree is $66,084 - $71,508 annually. The anticipated hiring range for a finalist with a doctorate degree is $78,432 - $89,772 annually. Primary duties and responsibilities are to teach introductory statistics courses.

    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
    • Master’s degree in Statistics or closely related field is required.
    • Must have ability to teach the following undergraduate courses: Introduction to Statistical Concepts and Methods, Applied Statistics for the Life Sciences, Statistical Inference for Management I, Statistical Inference for Management II, Statistical Methods for Engineers.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
    • Preference given to candidates with demonstrated excellence in teaching and/or industrial experience involving applied statistics.
    • Doctoral degree in Statistics is preferred.

    SPECIAL CONDITIONS

    The person holding this position is considered a 'mandated reporter' under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment.

    Following a conditional offer of employment, a background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate may start work with Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo.     ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

    The Statistics Department offers a program of study leading to a Bachelor of Science degree in Statistics, while also offering a minor in statistics to students majoring in other disciplines as well as a cross-disciplinary minor in data science for statistics and computer science majors. There are twenty-three tenure-track faculty members in the department, all of whom have their PhD degree in Statistics, as well as several full-time and part-time lecturers. Faculty members come from diverse backgrounds and have a wide spectrum of emphasis areas in statistics. Statistics faculty are all committed to an interesting and strong curriculum in statistics at the undergraduate level, one which emphasizes application as well as underlying theory.
