    TEMPORARY END DATE: This position is temporary and ends on or before December 31, 2025. Any continuation beyond December 31, 2025 is contingent upon satisfactory performance and available funding.

    FT/PT: Full-time

    PAY PLAN: 12-month

    WORKPLACE TYPE: On-site (work in-person at business location)

    ANTICIPATED HIRING RANGE: Starting salary upon appointment is not expected to exceed $4,482 per month.

    CSU CLASSIFICATION SALARY RANGE: $4,482 - $6,342

    PAY BASIS: Monthly

    POSITION PURPOSE: MAGEC supports students of all cultural backgrounds, religious beliefs, sexual orientations, and gender identities by providing an inclusive environment that promotes equity, diversity, and community-building.

    Under the general supervision of the Assistant Vice President for Student Affairs and Dean of Students for Student Integrity and Well- Being, and with lead work direction from the MAGEC and DRC Coordinator, with a dotted line to the Chief Diversity Officer, the Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) Assistant provides support to enhance the success of AANHPI students at CSUB. The Assistant assists in implementing programs and services that promote a sense of belonging, support cultural identity development, and offer culturally relevant programming. Additionally, the Assistant supports collaborative efforts with campus and community partners to contribute to the university’s pursuit of an AANAPISI designation.

    DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

    AANHPI Student Engagement & Program Support
    • Assist in providing basic guidance to prospective and current AANHPI student organizations.
    • Refer AANHPI students to appropriate campus resources, co-curricular opportunities, and programs to support their academic and professional development.
    • Provide logistical and administrative support for cultural celebrations and socio-cultural projects.
    • Assist in coordinating with academic advising units to ensure AANHPI students receive appropriate academic guidance.
    • Support efforts to include AANHPI perspectives in campus-wide programs and initiatives.
    • Assist in gathering feedback from AANHPI students to inform program development aimed at improving their retention and sense of belonging.
    • Participate in planning and supporting joint initiatives with MAGEC, Black Student Success Center, and Dreamers Resource Center on culturally significant programs.
    • Work with faculty and staff affinity groups to support collaborative programming celebrating AANHPI cultures, histories, and contributions.

    AANHPI Summer Bridge & Mentorship Program Support
    • Assist in implementing components of the Summer Bridge program to support incoming AANHPI students’ transition to the university.
    • Support the recruitment and basic training of student peer mentors to assist AANHPI students.
    • Provide logistical support for training student leads in developing summer programs.
    • Assist in coordinating with campus partners to align Summer Bridge initiatives and identify opportunities for collaboration.
    • Assist in facilitating culturally relevant mentorship opportunities for AANHPI students by connecting them with faculty, staff, and community partners.
    • Track program participation and gather preliminary data to support the assessment of the effectiveness of peer mentorship and Summer Bridge programs.
    • Support the establishment of mentorship structures aimed at promoting AANHPI student retention.

    AANHPI Recruitment & Outreach Initiative Support
    • Assist Enrollment Management teams with outreach efforts to prospective AANHPI students.
    • Provide basic support for campus recruitment efforts, including promoting the Summer Bridge program as a recruitment tool.Help maintain relationships with local schools and community organizations that serve AANHPI populations.
    • Assist in creating and distributing marketing materials aimed at promoting CSUB as a supportive environment for AANHPI students.

    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE - Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration, or job-related field and one (1) year of recent related experience. Specialized experience during which the applicant has acquired and successfully applied the appropriate knowledge, and abilities may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis. Equivalent amounts of graduate level job related education may be substituted for the required experience.

    SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & ABILITIES (SKA’s) -
    • Regular and reliable attendance is required.
    • Basic knowledge of AANHPI cultures, histories, and contributions to support cultural programming.
    • Cultural competency to engage with students from AANHPI and other underrepresented backgrounds.
    • Ability to assess student needs and refer them to appropriate campus resources or programs.
    • Ability to apply established procedures to address common student concerns effectively.
    • Working knowledge of the methods and problems of organization and program management; research and interviewing techniques; principles of individual and group behavior.
    • Ability to rapidly acquire such knowledge of the organization, procedures and activities of the specific campus to which the position is assigned and basic principles, practices and major trends in the Student Services field to which assigned.
    • Ability to rapidly acquire a working knowledge of the specific objectives of the campus Student Services program and its relationship to the total campus operation.
    • Ability to interpret and apply program rules and regulations; gather and analyze basic data; reason logically, draw valid conclusions and make appropriate recommendations.
    • Ability to deliver presentations and facilitate discussions with student groups.
    • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with faculty, CSU administrators, student organizations and other private and public agencies.
    • Demonstrated customer service experience requiring a very high level of diplomacy and professionalism.
    • Ability to use tact and diplomacy to effectively handle a broad range of high level and sensitive interpersonal situations with diverse personalities, and to respond appropriately to conflicts and problems.
    • Ability to initiate, establish, and foster communication and teamwork by maintaining a positive, cooperative, productive work atmosphere in the University with the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships within a diverse population and with those from various cultural backgrounds.
    • Excellent communication skills; ability to effectively communicate information in a clear and understandable manner.
    • Thorough knowledge of English grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
    • Ability to interpret, communicate and apply policies and procedures.
    • Ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality.
    • Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to set own priorities to coordinate multiple assignments with fluctuating and time-sensitive deadlines.
    • Excellent computer skills and competence with a variety of computer applications including word-processing, spreadsheets, databases, on-line systems, Internet as well as online calendaring and email.
    • Working knowledge of or ability to quickly learn University infrastructure.
    • Must be willing to travel and attend training programs off-site for occasional professional development.
    • Must be able to work overtime, occasional holidays and adjust working hours to meet special jobs. May be called back periodically to perform work as needed on an emergency basis.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
    • Master’s degree in educational counseling, Student Affairs, or related field.
    • Experience working with AANHPI populations or community-based organizations.
    • Demonstrated skills in an institutional/educational environment possessing a customer-oriented and service-centered attitude.

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS: SEDENTARY WORK - involves mainly sitting; minimal walking and standing; lifting light weight objects limited to 15 pounds.

    SPECIAL CONDITIONS:
