    The Job

    The Land Use Services Department is recruiting for Land Use Technicians who process a variety of planning, building, and other development related permit applications, provide information to the public, and perform field investigations for the Department. Incumbents in this classification review development and construction plans for completeness, accuracy, and conformance to regulations; may travel to field sites to gather, research, or verify information; research and compile legal, statistical, demographic, environmental, and historical data; and write reports for a land use team. Additionally, positions may process a variety of special use permit applications. These applications are related to allowed residential/commercial activities and ensure continued compatibility with surrounding properties.

    The eligible list may be used to fill vacancies in all divisions throughout the County as they arise.

    ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

    San Bernardino County is geographically the largest in the United States covering over 20,105 square miles of land and is the twelfth largest in population. The Land Use Services Department includes the divisions of Planning (Current Planning and Advance Planning), Building and Safety including Land Development and Code Enforcement including Fire Hazard Abatement.     CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

    Pre-Employment Process: Prior to appointment, applicants must undergo a background check, which includes fingerprinting and a medical exam.

    Travel: Travel throughout the County is required. A valid California Class C driver license is required at time of appointment, and must be maintained throughout employment. Employees in this class may be required to use personal vehicles and show proof of automobile liability insurance.

    Sponsorship: San Bernardino County is unable to consider candidates who require Visa Sponsorship at this time or in the future. Candidates must be able to present their legal right to work in the United States at the time of employment.

    Minimum Requirements

    Candidates must meet ONE of the options below to qualify.

    OPTION 1: One (1) year of full-time experience processing permit applications for, or enforcing, code compliance related to land use, building, construction, fire, environmental, or other code regulations, which includes explaining related regulations and requirements to the public.

    OPTION 2: One (1) year of full-time experience with primary responsibility for reading and interpreting real property parcel maps for the purpose of identifying specific property descriptions determining allowable use and ownership; experience must include title searches.

    Desired Qualifications

    The ideal candidate will have excellent customer service experience and showcase a positive attitude, especially during peak times.
