CHIEF BUILDING INSPECTOR

We are accepting applications for the position of Chief Building Inspector in the Community Development Department.

Examples of Work:
  • Supervises Building Inspectors which involves such duties as instructing, assigning and reviewing work
  • Provides public outreach and meets with contractors, building inspectors, and other City personnel
  • Creates and conducts projects, outreach events, training events
  • Researches, writes new ordinances and writes amendments to existing ordinances as needed
  • Serves as City Floodplain Administrator, CRS Coordinator and Historical Commission Staff Inspector

Starting salary is $60,865 annually with excellent benefits including paid health, dental, and life insurance, retirement through State of Alabama Retirement Systems, and paid holidays, vacation, sick leave and annual merit raises. A valid driver’s license is required.

Education and/or Experience:

Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited university, plus additional study in Planning and Development and five (5) years of experience in planning and code inspections; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Special Qualifications:
  • Requires certification as a Building Inspector through a recognized program or be willing to work toward such certification within a specified time period.
  • Preference for Association of State Floodplain Manager (ASFPM) Certified Floodplain Manager

Physical Demands:
  • The work is light work which requires exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force to move objects.
