SALARY HOURLY:

IT Systems Technician I Level $28.32 - $37.94
IT Systems Technician II Level $33.16 - $44.65

In addition to performance-based merit increases, this position is scheduled to receive salary range increases on the following dates:

Effective June 27, 2025 - 4.00% increase

This recruitment is being held to establish an open eligible list to fill current and future
vacancies in the Public Defender's Office. This recruitment may be used to fill similar and/or lower level classifications within the IT Systems Technician series throughout the County of Orange.

THE OPPORTUNITY
The Offices of the Public Defender seeks a highly skilled IT Systems Technician I/II with experience, preferably within the public sector. The position requires a broad range of skills, including installation, maintenance, and configuration. This position is the primary administrator for the Public Defender's Case Management Systems (CMS) and plays a vital role in its day-to-day operations. The Department seeks to hire an IT Systems Technician I/II who is self-motivated, capable of multi-tasking and functions well within a team environment. This is an in-person assignment, and the duties cannot be performed remotely/virtually. The position duties include, but are not limited to:
  • Managing and maintaining user accounts
  • Providing help desk assistance (Tier 1) to customers for desktop computers, peripheral and related technology
  • Troubleshooting, evaluating and resolving a variety of routine computer hardware, software and peripheral equipment issues
  • Performing a variety of technical support work pertaining to the basic operation and maintenance of computers and peripheral equipment
  • Creating disk images, understanding and implementing desktop deployment strategies
  • Performing routine system backups, upgrades and/or other hardware/software support
  • Performing routine system support duties
  • Assisting higher-level information technology staff with the acquisition and distribution of computer hardware and software solutions
  • Monitoring and maintaining data storage
  • Managing and maintaining interfaces
  • Performing other related duties as assigned

Information Technology Systems Technician I is the entry-level class in the professional IT Systems Technician series. Positions in this class typically require minimum directly related work experience and are distinguished from IT Systems Technician II by the performance of less than the full range of duties assigned to the IT Systems Technician II level. Incumbents work initially under close supervision while learning job tasks, progressing to general supervision as the procedures and processes of the assigned areas of responsibilities are learned.

Information Technology Systems Engineer II is the journey-level class in the IT Systems Technician series. Positions in this class are distinguished from IT Systems Technician I by the performance of the full range of duties under general supervision. Incumbents at this level work alone on routine or regular work assignments, checking with a supervisor on non-routine assignments or when in doubt as to the correct procedures to follow.

IT Systems Technician I:

Experience : One year of directly related experience that demonstrates the competencies and attributes listed above.

Special Requirement : An IT related certificate may be required for some assignments.

IT Systems Technician II
Experience : Two years of experience that is comparable to a County of Orange IT Systems Technician I.
Special Requirement : An IT related certificate may be required for some assignments.

BACKGROUND VERIFICATION/SANCTION SCREENING

Note: Foreign degrees require an evaluation of U.S. equivalency by an agency that is a member of the National Association of Credential Services (N.A.C.E.S.) .

Candidates will be required to pass the background check to the satisfaction of the hiring Agency/Department, including a fingerprint check though Live Scan.
