STORE CLERK

This position is scheduled to receive salary range increases on the following dates:
Effective June 27, 2025 - 4.00% increase

Salary may be negotiable within the range listed above, based on position requirements and successful candidate's qualifications, subject to appropriate authorization.

This recruitment is open to the public and will be advertised from Tuesday, August 27, 2024, to Monday, September 2, 2024.

This recruitment will establish an open eligible list and will be used to fill current and future Store Clerk positions at OC Health Care Agency. This recruitment may also be used to fill positions in similar and/or lower classifications throughout the County of Orange.

THE AGENCY
The County of Orange , Health Care Agency (HCA) is a dynamic organization dedicated to creating and supporting an environment that promotes the achievement of optimal individual, family and community health. Under the direction of the Agency Director, a new and dynamic executive team with an organizational structure comprised of five (5) service areas - Administrative Services, Behavioral Health Services, Correctional Health Services, Public Health Services and Specialized Medical Services - is committed to meeting the health needs of the diverse Orange County community.

THE DEPARMENT
Through assessment, policy development and assurance, Public Health Services (PHS) provides a wide range of services aimed at improving the health of our community by reducing the transmission of communicable diseases, preventing and lessening the impact of chronic diseases, and ensuring healthy and safe environments.

THE PROGRAM
Health Promotion and Community Planning
(HPCP) focuses on keeping people healthy by engaging and empowering individuals and communities to choose healthy behaviors, make changes that reduce the risk of developing chronic disease and other morbidities; and helping the community navigate and link to resources available in the community.
THE OPPORTUNITY
The Store Clerk is responsible for facilitating the ordering, receiving, storing and issuance of a wide variety of office supplies, forms, and equipment. The position is also responsible for maintaining product inventory records and coordinating surplus. The position will report to the Program Supervisor II. The responsibilities of the Store Clerk will include, but are not limited to:
  • Operate a small size storeroom stocking a variety of office supplies (i.e. pens, pencils, paper, toners), as well as two (2) locations that store program specific items and supplies
  • Create requisitions for supply purchases and submit orders to multiple vendors
  • Contact vendors for quotes
  • Maintain records of items received and dispensed to particular areas using computer software programs (i.e. Word, Excel, inventory systems, etc.)
  • Organize, clean, and maintain storerooms at all times
  • Check received items for damage and coordinate with vendors for replacement or credit for damaged or missing items
  • Repeated lifting of 30 or more pounds, multiple times throughout shift. Items that require lifting include, but are not limited to: table, chairs, cases of copy paper, program specific materials
  • Operate dolly, and push carts to move heavy objects such as table chairs and program materials
  • Rotate stock when delivering goods onto shelves or into cabinets, and containers
  • Operate a County vehicle to pick up/deliver program supplies, program materials and other miscellaneous products such as:
    • Equipment that requires repair from multiple repair vendors
  • Receive and recycle materials

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS & CORE COMPETENCIES
The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, organized, and able to work independently. Experience in operating and maintaining a storeroom or similar institutional setting (i.e. warehouse experience) is preferred.

The ideal candidate will also demonstrate knowledge and experience in the following competencies:

Technical Skills | Experience
  • Creating, modifying and tracking purchases
  • Maintaining inventory using Excel spreadsheet
  • Ordering supplies or equipment using a computerized inventory system
  • Knowledge of conducting physical inventories (can occur daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly or yearly depending on the different programs priority and demands)
  • Preparing clear and concise inventory records and reports
  • Being aware of budget spending and using initiative to find best pricing when ordering items/supplies
  • Utilizing Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and Teams proficiently
  • Operating and using a variety of electronic and automated office machines and equipment

Communication and Relationship Building
  • Responding to various departmental emails in a timely manner
  • Building and maintaining effective working relationships with all levels within HCA Health Promotion and Community Planning (HPCP) staff and other County department/agency contacts
  • Working well with co-workers, possessing a positive attitude and standing out as a team player

Self-Management
  • Demonstrating integrity and being self-motivated
  • Organizing, maintaining and storing records (supply invoices, packing slips, equipment) neatly and properly
  • Managing workload and time accordingly; multitasking while handling frequent interruptions
  • Working independently and anticipating the next task without supervisor's directions

Safety Focus
  • Making sound judgments, taking actions or making decisions to prevent injury
  • Being alert and mindful of personal safety and security at all times while transporting supplies or equipment
  • Adhering to safety guidelines and staying up to date with HCA Safety Compliance yearly trainings and refreshers
  • Knowledge of defensive driving techniques and best practices

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS

Environmental Conditions: Will be required to work in a standard office environment.
