Job Description

TPWD MISSION

To manage and conserve the natural and cultural resources of Texas and to provide hunting, fishing and outdoor recreation opportunities for the use and enjoyment of present and future generations.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION :

PLEASE NOTE: The salary listed on this posting will receive a 5% legislative appropriated increase effective 9/1/2024.

Under the direction of the Lead Ranger, this position performs complex (senior-level) custodial work. Work involves the cleaning/sanitation of state facilities, including, but not limited to seven public restrooms and rental facilities, including two group facilities and up to sixteen fully furnished historic cabins and four fully furnished historic lodges. Performs custodial duties aligned with historic preservation techniques to meet cultural resource management principals. Work involves conducting inspections of buildings and equipment. May supervise work of others. Performs general custodial functions such as sweeping, mopping, dusting, and cleaning windows and light fixtures. Performs cleaning and restroom maintenance, replenishing supplies and applying cleaning chemicals as appropriate. Performs minor building repairs. Performs moving of furniture and other items. Performs minor maintenance and repair work on custodial equipment. Cleans, dusts, and inspects areas such as restrooms, offices, and other facilities. Cleans furniture, walls, windows and floors and empties trash. Inspects buildings for cleanliness, completed work and needed repairs. Maintains inventory records of custodial equipment, materials, and supplies. Assists with visitor services including providing customer service and information to park visitors. Works under limited supervision, with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Performs additional duties as assigned. Complies with all Agency, Division and Branch rules, regulations and procedures.


Qualifications:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :

Education :

Completion of 8th grade.

Experience :

One year experience in areas such as general cleaning, housekeeping, or custodial work.

Licensure :

Must possess or be able to obtain, within 30 days of employment, a valid State driver's license.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS :

Experience :

Experience working with the public.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES :

Knowledge of cleaning techniques and procedures;

Knowledge of inventory control principles and methods;

Knowledge of historic preservation techniques;

Skill in use of custodial materials and chemicals;

Skill in use of operating custodial equipment;

Skills in the use and maintenance of building maintenance tools and equipment;

Skill in effective verbal and written communication;

Skill in providing quality customer service in a courteous and professional manner;

Skill in establishing and maintaining effective work relationships with co-workers and work-related contacts;

Skill in making independent, sound and timely decisions;

Skill in the use of MS Word, Excel, and Outlook;

Ability to maintain flexibility and work with frequent interruptions and multiple changing priorities;

Ability to work independently with little or no supervision;

Ability to work as a member of a team;

Ability to produce electronic reports;

Ability to supervise alternative workforce;

Ability to perform manual labor such as lifting supplies and materials, up to 50 lbs.;

Ability to conduct work activities in accordance with TPWD safety program;

Ability to maintain written inventory of cleaning supplies, linen supplies, furniture, and appliance items and repair requests.

WORKING CONDITIONS :

Required to work 40 hours per week with hours other than 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and days off other than Saturdays, Sundays and holidays;

Required to perform work outdoors, occasionally in adverse weather conditions;

Required to perform manual labor including, lifting supplies and materials up to 50 lbs.;

May be required to operate a State vehicle;

Required to travel 5% with possible overnight stays;

Must conform to agency work rules, safety program and dress and grooming standards;

Non-smoking work environment in State buildings and vehicles.
