The traffic liaison engineer is responsible for providing expertise, sharing knowledge, and training in specific areas of traffic engineering, including signing, pavement marking, and temporary traffic control (work zones). Responsibilities are performed under general supervision.

What you’ll do:

  • Serves as a department expert in specific, critical areas of traffic engineering, including signing, pavement marking, and temporary traffic control (work zones); provides leadership, guidance, and quality assurance for department projects involving these areas.
  • Evaluates and makes recommendations regarding department traffic engineering manuals, policies, procedures, and state and federal regulations.
  • Reviews and makes recommendations on exceptions to department policy.
  • Develops new programs and policies in areas of technical expertise, which may include development, negotiation, and management of engineering-related consultant contracts.
  • Leads a team of engineers and technical staff in the work of the specified areas.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from an ABET-accredited college or university curriculum.
  • Licensed as a Professional Engineer in the State of Missouri.
  • Nine years of experience in highway or transportation engineering.


Special Working Conditions:

  • Job requires regular, statewide, overnight travel.
  • Remote work from another MoDOT facility may be considered.
  • Hybrid telework may be considered, but full-time tele-work is not available.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with statewide and interdisciplinary teams.
  • Leadership capabilities, including motivation, initiative, innovation, communication, and leading by example.
