DUTIES

ANNUAL SALARY

$75,439 to $110,309; $90,243 to $131,940; and $103,502 to $151,338

NOTES :

A shift differential bonus is paid if 50% of the work hours are between 5:00 p.m. and 12:00 a.m.Candidates from the eligible list are normally appointed to vacancies in the lower pay grade positions.Annual salary is at the start of the pay range. An Airport Superintendent of Operations inspects airport facilities, including airfields, terminal buildings, and landside areas to ensure compliance with Federal, State, and City regulations and requirements; reviews contract and private ground transportation services to ensure compliance with contract terms and airport rules, regulations, and procedures; enforces safety operating rules, regulations, and procedures; responds to emergencies on the airfield, terminals, and/or landside areas using FEMA protocols and systems; acts as liaison between the operations office and airport maintenance, tenants, and the public; directs the activities of personnel in the Airport Operations Division; may act for a Chief of Operations on an assigned or rotating shift; may supervise the operation, maintenance and security of a commercial or general aviation airport; may provide escorts for aircraft on movement areas or direct aircraft movements in the non-movement areas controlled by the LAWA Ramp Tower, and does related work.

REQUIREMENT(S)/MINIMUM QUALIFICATION(S)

Two years of full-time paid experience at a commercial service airport or at a military airport working in airport operations; or with an airline, service provider, or Fixed Based Operator (FBO) ramp performing activities requiring operation of vehicle equipment on the air operations area and/or in airport terminal use management; or Two years of full-time paid experience performing aircraft controlling operations in a FAA or military air traffic control facility or at a municipal or airline ramp tower; or A bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university with 24 semester or 36 quarter units in aviation management; or An associate’s degree from an accredited college or university in Aviation Management, Aviation Administration, Aviation Flight or Aviation Professional Pilots; and a FAA-issued Private Pilot’s Certificate or higher.

However, they cannot be appointed until the full experience requirement is met.A valid California driver’s license is required prior to appointment. Candidates with an out of state driver’s license must submit the equivalent of a California driving history from the state where the applicant’s driver’s license was obtained prior to appointment. Candidates will be disqualified and not eligible for hire if their record within the last 36 months reflects three or more moving violations and/or at-fault accidents, or a conviction of a major moving violation (such as DUI).Applicants qualifying under Requirement #3 must list their school name and location, course titles with the number of semester or quarter units for each, and completion dates in the Supplemental Questions section of the on-line application. The examination will consist entirely of an evaluation of professional and personal qualifications by interview. In the interview, the following competencies may be evaluated: Judgment and Decision Making; Initiative; Stress Tolerance; Customer Service; Teamwork; Shares Knowledge and Information; Job Knowledge, including knowledge of: Department of Homeland Security (DHS), US Customs and Border Protection (USCBP), and Transportation Security Administration (TSA) procedures and regulations related to airfield, landside, and terminal airport operations, and their relationship to passenger processing for flights; Federal rules and regulations regarding air and ground traffic control of aircrafts; airfield and terminal operations’ responsibilities during emergency situations; airline and terminal operations and procedures as they relate to passenger check-in, screening, and boarding of flights; aviation programs, systems, and procedures and their impact on aircraft operations; aviation and airport operations terminology and its use; terminology used in reports of weather conditions in Meteorological Terminal Aviation Routine (METAR) and Terminal Aerodrome Forecast (TAF) reporting; operating regulations and procedures as outlined in the Airport Certification Manual; Navigational Aids (NAVAIDs) as they relate to the safe movement of aircraft around the air operations area; airline flight dispatch processes; and other necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities.
