ABOUT THE POSITION

There are currently three (3) temporary/contingent Clinic Registered Nurse II positions available in the Department of Health & Human Services, Division of Public Health. These positions will work in the following program:

  • The COVID-19 Vaccination Branch
WORK SCHEDULE: The schedule may vary but is expected to be a maximum of 20 hours per week. Weekend and evening work might be required. These temporary positions are expected to begin immediately and may continue for approximately 2 months

Position Description:
The Clinic Registered Nurse II (CRN II) is an experienced nurse who works independently, is responsible for routine problem solving and decision making for a variety of complex tasks and works within defined procedures and guidelines. The CRN II assists in assessing, planning, and implementing nursing care and treatment plans, initiates patient referrals to community resources, consults with health care providers, and prepares and maintains medical records and reports. This position participates in revision of nursing protocols and procedures and is responsible for following current protocols of the vaccination program. This position may perform patient triage, assess patients for appropriateness of services and referrals, and problem-solve complex cases. The CRN II assists in the coordination of day-to-day clinic or program activities; orients, trains, and directs other clinical and non-clinical staff; performs nursing procedures; and orders supplies and maintains inventory.

COVID-19 Vaccination Branch:
The Clinic Registered Nurse II (CRN II) plays a major role in COVID-19 response. The CRN II position in the COVID-19 Vaccination Branch conducts mass vaccination clinics in the field as part of a larger vaccination team. The CRN II assesses appropriateness of patients to receive COVID-19 vaccine based on specific screening protocols and provides vaccine education to patients. The CRN II prepares and administers COVID-19 and other seasonal vaccinations to adult and pediatric populations and responds to immediate adverse vaccine reactions. During vaccination clinics, the CRN II monitors vaccine storage unit temperatures, and tracks and reports vaccine inventory.

ABOUT YOU

Our Highly Qualified Candidate:

The ideal candidate has demonstrated knowledge and experience in procuring, preparing, and administered COVID vaccines as well as having experience in working at a mobile vaccination site. They have the knowledge of vaccine administration and providing guidance on the current vaccine guidelines to clinical and non-clinical staff as well as having experience working with public health systems.

The successful candidate is organized, dependable, and flexible, and has a demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgment and follow policies and procedures. Additionally, they possess strong MS Office computer skills. The ideal candidate has a solid understanding and/or experience working with diverse communities. The ideal candidate also has a demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and develop and maintain positive working relationships with colleagues, clients, community organizations and the public.

Qualifications :

Knowledge of
  • Nursing principles, practices and procedures.
  • Administration of medications, treatments and therapies.
  • Principles and techniques of drug administration, and uses and effects of medications.
  • Care and use of medical supplies and equipment.
  • Medical terminology.
  • Clinic routines and protocols.
  • Laws, rules and regulations governing the practice of nursing.
  • Child and elder abuse and neglect and domestic violence reporting laws.
  • Nursing principles, practices and techniques, including assessment, patient care planning and delivery, patient education and evaluation of outcomes.
  • Principles, practices and techniques of safety and infection control.
  • Community medical and social agencies and resources.
  • Environmental, sociological and psychological problems affecting nursing care.
Ability to
  • Evaluate and access health care/medical service needs.
  • Administer medications and perform skilled nursing services, treatments and procedures in a clinic setting.
  • Anticipate physicians' and patients' needs.
  • Prepare and maintain organized, detailed and accurate medical records and charts.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
  • Collaborate with other members of the health care team on an ongoing basis.
  • Input, access and analyze data using a computer terminal.
  • Solve problems and make logical decisions.
  • Perform physical and psycho-social nursing assessments and develop and implement patient care plans and/or referrals.
  • Apply teaching principles and provide education and counseling within scope of authority.
  • Exercise sound independent judgment within scope of authority and practice.
Minimum Qualifications
Requires a valid license as a Registered Nurse in the state of California and the equivalent of two years of professional nursing experience.

Certificates and Licenses
  • Must possess and maintain a valid California Registered Nurse license.
  • Must possess and maintain a current CPR certificate.
