PUBLIC HEALTH DIVISION
The Health and Human Services Agency’s Public Health Division promotes and protects the health and well-being of the citizens of El Dorado County. They monitor and control communicable disease, provide community services and outreach on topics such as immunizations, tobacco use prevention, oral health, WIC, and many more!

TOBACCO USE PREVENTION PROGRAM
The El Dorado County Tobacco Use Prevention Program (TUPP) works with local community, youth, organizations, and schools in El Dorado County to offer tobacco education, cessation and policy programs:
  • Education on the effects of secondhand smoke
  • Advocacy regarding tobacco control policies
  • Implementation of voluntary policies and state laws
  • Information on environmental and social norm change
  • Efforts to reduce illegal sales of tobacco to children
THE OPPORTUNITY
The County of El Dorado is seeking College Student Interns for Health and Human Services Agency - Public Health Division.

The duties performed by this classification will vary depending on the nature of the assignment and will be defined in the duty statement for the specific internship assignment.

The selected candidate will have the opportunity to:
  • Performs a wide variety of administrative, technical, and para-professional duties of the assigned department/division.
  • Collects, tabulates, and/or analyzes information and data.
  • Assists in routine research, investigations, and special studies or projects in support of the assigned department/division.
  • Assists in preparing, reviewing, and monitoring department budgets, contracts, and fiscal documents.
  • Compares and proofreads documents.
  • Performs routine semi-skilled or skilled duties.
  • Interviews and consults with County employees, officials, and interested persons or groups on matters related to work assignments.
  • Develops presentations and charts detailing analysis of information and data.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE
The ideal candidate would be passionate and interested in working in the public health field, specifically working in tobacco use prevention. The candidate would assist the Health Education and Promotions Team with a variety of tasks including community outreach events, coalition meeting support, and various projects in all areas of the Tobacco Use Prevention Program (TUPP) work plan.

Education and Experience:
Any combination of the required experience, education, and training that would provide the essential knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying.

AND MUST BE:


***Current full-time or part-time enrollment in an accredited college or university program leading to an associate degree, bachelor's degree, or a vocational certification.***

Licenses and Certifications:
Some positions may require the possession of a valid Driver's License and maintain a satisfactory driving record.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Applicants under 18 years of age must secure and provide a work permit prior to the start of the internship.
  • Students shall work no more than 24 hours per week during the school term, but may work full-time during school breaks. The definition of part-time or full-time enrollment is that of which is stated in the educational institution's official catalogue.
  • Additional education, experience, certifications, or licenses may apply depending upon the internship assignment area.
WORKING CONDITIONS
  • Prior to the start of the internship, candidates must pass a background investigation, submit proof of U.S. citizenship or legal right to work, and may be required to submit proof of age.
  • Employment in this class is temporary in nature and is designed to offer students a practical learning experience. No part-time or full-time regular appointments will be made in or from this class.
  • If assigned to a Law and Justice Department, candidates must pass a thorough background investigation.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION The County of El Dorado is recruiting applicants for Student Intern to be a part of the Tobacco Use Prevention Program . This recruitment will establish a list for the purpose of filling current and future extra help internship vacancies for at least three (3) months .

We currently have the following vacancies:
  • One (1) Extra Help vacancy in the Health and Human Services Office, Public Health division located in Placerville, CA.
Extra help vacancies are made to maintain adequate coverage of work for short periods of time at frequent intervals, where employment is of a recurrent nature depending on the needs of the Agency; work may be seasonal, on-call, and/or for a limited duration. Extra help employees are not considered regular employees, therefore do not attain civil service status, and do not receive benefits or paid leaves; however, they do accrue sick leave consistent with the law.
