AIR QUALITY MANAGEMENT DISTRICT
The El Dorado County, Air Quality Management District works to improve air quality and quality of life for El Dorado County residents.

THE OPPORTUNITY
Put your knowledge and experience in planning, supervising, organizing, coordinating and reviewing activities, initiatives, and projects related to professional engineering evaluations and assessments to minimize and control air pollution, air pollution precursors, and toxic air contaminants to protect human health and the environment; performing complex engineering evaluations of stationary and portable pollutant emitting sources; evaluating applications for permits to construct and operate.

The selected candidate will have the opportunity to:
  • Assist in the development and implementation of goals, objectives, policies, procedures, and work standards for the District; provide input into the District’s budget.
  • Participate in the selection of, train, motivate, and evaluate assigned personnel; work with employees to correct deficiencies; implement discipline and termination procedures.
  • Contribute to the overall quality of the District by developing, reviewing, and implementing policies and procedures to meet legal requirements and County needs; monitor and evaluate the efficiency and effectiveness of service delivery methods and procedures; assess and monitor the distribution of work, support systems, and internal reporting relationships; identify opportunities for improvement; directs the implementation of change.
  • Respond in person, by telephone, and in writing to industry, public, and District inquiries regarding regulation interpretation, permit preparation, various compliance measures, and emission calculation methods.
  • Monitor and review, as required, inspection reports and supportive data and recommends appropriate action, including mutual settlement, prosecution on a criminal or civil basis, or dismissal or referral to another agency; investigate complaints regarding public nuisances, dust, odor, and related air pollution issues.
  • Review, evaluate, and monitor federal and state legislation related to the area of assignment and evaluates possible effects of legislation on District policies and procedures; make recommendations for and implements changes as needed.

Ideal Candidate Statement
The ideal candidate for the Sr. Air Quality Engineer position will be a seasoned professional with a strong foundation in air quality engineering principles and a passion for protecting the environment and public health. With El Dorado County Air Quality Management District's mission to improve air quality and quality of life for residents, the ideal candidate will bring a wealth of experience in managing and supervising air quality programs, including planning, permitting, compliance inspections, grant management and emission reduction initiatives. They will be adept at interpreting complex regulations, applying advanced engineering techniques, and leading a team of professionals to achieve the District’s goals.

In this role, the ideal candidate will oversee critical projects and contribute to the ongoing development and implementation of policies that align with state and federal air quality standards. They will be able to navigate the challenges of regulatory program implementation while fostering collaborative relationships with community groups, businesses, and governmental agencies. As a forward-thinking leader, they will actively participate in the District’s efforts to innovate and expand incentive programs, ensuring that El Dorado County continues significantly reducing emissions and enhancing the air quality for all its residents.

Human Resources will assess your application to determine if you are minimally qualified using the following recommendations.

Equivalent to a bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in chemical, mechanical, petroleum, combustion, or environmental air quality engineering, or a closely related field;

AND

Four (4) years of progressively responsible experience in air quality engineering or a closely related field; including two (2) years of responsible lead or supervisory experience.

Licenses and Certifications:

  • Possession of, or ability to obtain and maintain, a valid California or Nevada Driver’s License and a satisfactory driving record.
  • Possession of a Visible Emissions Evaluation certification issued by the Air Resources Board is desirable.
