This position will be responsible for conducting inquiries and some investigations into allegations of discrimination, harassment and retaliation by Department employees. In the investigative capacity, this position will be responsible for independently preparing investigative plans, conducting interviews, collecting relevant evidence, and preparing an investigative report. The ideal candidate should possess strong oral and written communication skills and some experience delivering training would be beneficial.

The chosen candidate primarily will conduct investigations from the Division of Adult Institutions, Probation and Parole Districts and Community Release Centers identified in all regions. The ideal candidate should have knowledge of the following areas of concentration as it relates to discrimination, harassment and retaliation; Title VII of the Civil Rights Act 1964, Rehabilitation Act of 1973, Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Amendments Act 2008, Genetic Information Nondiscrimination Act of 2008 (GINA), Age Discrimination in Employment Act of 1967 (ADEA) and the Equal Pay Act of 1963 (EPA)

This is a mid-level professional work position addressing civil rights concerns; conducting inquiries regarding discrimination, harassment and retaliation, and participating in the operation of human relations and equal employment opportunity programs.

Exercises initiative and independence within established guidelines; receives general administrative direction.

Provides technical assistance to agency staff and contractors; interprets and disseminates information concerning federal and state civil rights laws and regulations, agency policies and procedures, court cases and decisions of external human rights agencies.

Participates in the development and implementation of agency equal employment opportunity and affirmative action policies and procedures to assure compliance and prevent discrimination.

Prepares investigative plans, interviews complainants and witnesses, and prepares interrogatories to obtain information and documentation from respondents.

Prepares and documents investigative reports and recommended findings; researches laws/statutes, prior cases, documents, evidence and other information related to an investigation.

Performs other related work as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

One or more years of experience as a Human Resources Assistant, or Lead Administrative Support Assistant with primary experience in human relations, personnel administration, recruitment and selections, employee grievance, equal employment or other investigations, or a closely related area with the Missouri Uniform Classification and Pay System OR

Five or more years of professional, technical or consultative experience in human relations, personnel administration, recruitment and selections, employee grievance, equal employment or other investigations, or a closely related area

(Earned credit hours from an accredited college or university that includes earned credit hours in one or a combination of the following: Public, Business or Personnel Administration, Social Sciences, or a closely related field may substitute for up to four years of the required experience, at a rate of 30 credit hours for one year - a minimum of one year of experience is required)

Some positions are eligible for a shift differential of $173.34 semi-monthly, which is provided to employees with shifts that begin on or between 12:00pm (noon) and 5:00am, and who work at a 24/7 worksite (i.e. institution, transition center, supervision center, or command center), or whose work requires regular visits to these locations. If selected for interview, eligibility may be discussed at that time with the hiring manager.

The Department of Corrections is the only State agency that currently offers a guaranteed 1% pay increase for every two years of service up to 20 years.
