Description:

The Ground Technician is responsible for performing the maintenance of county owned properties. Direct the activities of ground worker crews, ensuring adherence to established policies. Perform upkeep of plants and landscaping. Maintain irrigation functions. Operate and maintain grounds keeping and maintenance equipment. Perform vegetation and erosion control. Perform integrated pest management. Keep records of pesticide use per regulation. Maintain and construct storm water infrastructure. Monitor the progress of subcontractors.

This is a full-time, standard position that operates on a four-day work week (Monday-Thursday) from 6:00A-4:30P during mid-November to mid-May. During the rest of the year, there is an expectation to work a five-day work week (Monday-Friday) from 6:00A-2:30P.

This position requires onsite work to be performed.

Target Hiring Range: $23.00 -27.10 USD Hourly

Compensation will be determined based on education, experience and skills.

Essential Duties:
  • Participate in projects to improve County grounds. Plant and trim trees and shrubs. Remove undesirable trees and shrubs and maintain records of work performed for evaluation. Perform integrated pest management. Record pesticide applications to ensure regulatory compliance. Install and repair irrigation and sprinkler systems and adjust irrigation schedules. Operate tractors to plow snow, mow, seed, fertilize, apply pesticides, weed control, and prepare grounds for construction. Maintain and repair equipment. Remove debris, snow, weeds, and litter. Install erosion and sediment control devices. Maintain and construct storm water infrastructure.
  • Maintain and operate large walk-behind and riding mowers, trimmers, and other gas-powered equipment.
  • Maintain records as required by regulations. Perform and report backflow prevention assembly tests as required by regulations. Assign and direct tasks of grounds workers. Resolve problems of non-routine situations. Respond to emergency situations.
  • Perform integrated pest management. Record pesticide applications and use to ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Respond to emergency situations, and snow removal operations 24 hours a day seven days a week. Must report to assigned shop within one hour of being called.
  • Responsible for assisting with the basic development and training of fellow employees.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Minimal Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma, GED or equivalent certificate;
  • 1 year of work-related experience and;
  • Valid Driver’s License.
  • Or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Mustpossess a Colorado Department of Agriculture (CDA) Commercial Pesticide Applicator license within 12 months of employment.


Additional Job Information:
  • Must pass a pre-employment physical, background check, and Motor Vehicle Record check.
  • Valid Driver’s License for 2 consecutive years prior to hire date. If from out of state, must obtain a Colorado Driver’s License within 30 days of hire.
