Job Location: This position is located at the Harry S Truman State Office Building, 301 W High Street, Jefferson City, Missouri.

This entry to advanced level technical position serves Missourians by helping ensure that insurance company operations are in compliance with state law. This is achieved by conducting analysis of individual companies and the different types of markets as well as investigations into specific companies to review their books and records for compliance with Missouri statutes and regulations, especially in areas that may impact policyholders.

  • Identify concerns in the marketplace, by reviewing Market Conduct Annual Statement data, complaints, form and rate filings, class action lawsuits, NAIC bulletin boards, etc.
  • Participate in all phases of market conduct analysis and investigations, including the review of insurance company practices relating to operations and management, underwriting and rating, sales and advertising, claims practices, policyholder service, and complaint handling.
  • Draft and send interrogatories and request relevant documents from the company.
  • Obtain, review and evaluate data received from insurance companies; ensuring the accuracy and integrity of data and look for indicators of errors and trends.
  • Complete work timely and accurately; and in accordance with the NAIC Market Regulation Handbook.
  • Research Missouri statutes and regulations, case law, and precedent, and compare insurer behavior for compliance with Missouri insurance laws.
  • Prepare a closing memo and findings of fact, if applicable, along with appropriate legal citations at the end of an investigation.
  • Make recommendations and referrals for examination, voluntary settlement, or other action based on findings.
  • Ensure that formal written work is properly composed and formatted.


What are the qualifications for the position?

Knowledge through a Bachelor’s degree or work experience in areas of insurance law or regulation, underwriting and rating, claims administration, actuarial analysis, or other relevant fields. (Substitutions may be allowed.)
