The OA-ITSD Office of Cyber Security is looking for a highly motivated cybersecurity specialist to direct our cybersecurity infrastructure team. This position will lead a group of top-notch security professionals that research, deploy, and support security solutions across the state's network and protect the State's sensitive data. This position will be responsible for providing direction for the state's security infrastructure, by performing security gap analysis and making continued improvements to the state's security posture by purchasing security technologies. Those technologies include but are not limited to next-generation firewalls, web application firewalls, intrusion prevention systems, load balancers, network access controls, data loss prevention tools, system incident and event management tools, and more. This position will need to coordinate proof of concepts and be familiar with budget and purchasing responsibilities. This position also provides security guidance for new agency projects to ensure they align with the NIST 800-53 cyber security framework. As the director, this position has several direct reports and performs a supervisory role.

This position is with the Office of Administration, Information Technology Services Division (OA-ITSD) supporting the Office of Cybersecurity (OCS).

  • Stay informed of new technologies and develop methods for securing those technologies at an enterprise level

    Coordinate and perform security assessments against the state environment.
  • Guide agencies when they come to us with new projects and coordinate with our project review team members.
  • Coordinate and delegate support as needed.
  • Submit annual new decision items as needed to acquire funding for new security tools and support.
  • Coordinate and perform proof of concepts with leading vendors to fill any security gaps identified in assessments.
  • Request and review quotes as needed to maintain or purchase new security infrastructure.
  • Supervise direct report staff. As a supervisor, the position is responsible for monthly engagement meetings, reviewing timesheets, setting up necessary training opportunities, and addressing concerns brought up by the team.
  • Provide metrics to the CISO to track both team progress on projects and security trends.
  • This position must also keep a positive attitude and continue to build on the team culture we have created.


  • Applicants should have a strong understanding of best security practices and be familiar with the NIST 800-53 cyber security framework.
  • They must have a good understanding of application workflow and networking.
  • Applicants need to be familiar with many different security technologies.
  • Must have strong communication skills and be able to think on their feet when problems are presented to them by the team.
  • This position requires the management of many projects at a time.
  • The applicant must also be able to work in a team environment and have good people skills.
  • This position will need to work closely with the CISO and other cyber security team members to ensure that security objectives are being met for the organization.
  • The applicant must understand the purchasing process and work closely with vendors to negotiate pricing on security toolsets.
  • This position will also have some direct reports and will be responsible for approving timesheets and hosting monthly engagement meetings.
  • Successful background check results are required for employment in this position. This may include background checks involving a candidate’s name and/or fingerprints and other screenings as needed for the specific position.
