Job Description:

Overview

Performs electrical related work in the installation, maintenance, relocation, repair, and expansion of municipal owned facilities and equipment, including underground and overhead services.

Essential Functions
  • Installs and repairs electrical systems on all city facilities and equipment.
  • Repairs and performs emergency and routine servicing transformers, motors, starters and other electrical devices.
  • Installs new parts and repairs or replaces defective parts.
  • Troubleshoots and resolves electrical motor and process control systems failures.
  • Installs and upgrades lighting systems and electrical circuits throughout the city.
  • Maintains reports and records of servicing and electrical maintenance.
  • The intent of this class description is to provide a representative summary of the types of duties and responsibilities that would be required of classification given this title and shall not be construed as a declaration of the specific duties and responsibilities of any particular position. Incumbent may be required to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically presented in this job description.


Minimum Qualifications
  • High School or GED
  • Four years of apprenticeship schooling and four years of on the job experience in electrical installation, maintenance and repair.
  • Possess and maintain a valid State of Florida Driver's License.


Job Based Competencies
  • Knowledge of the standard practices, tools, and terminology of the electrical trade in the municipal and industrial environment.
  • Knowledge of electrical theory.
  • Knowledge of electrical safety practices as laid out in the NFPA 70-E standard for electrical safety in the workplace.
  • Knowledge of and familiarity with requirements of the National Electric Code (NEC).
  • Knowledge of or ability and willingness to learn the principles and practices in the installation and maintenance of electrical systems such as 3 phase motors, motor control, and power distribution. These electrical systems will have voltages that will range from 24-volt control systems up to 13,000-volt power distribution systems.
  • Ability to make repairs to electrical wiring, fixtures, and equipment.
  • Ability to install and maintain electrical equipment in municipal buildings.
  • Ability to receive and execute work instructions efficiently and accurately.
  • This job may require the need to be on call and or work overtime as circumstances dictate.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the general public.


Responsibility

Under the direction of and responsible to the Department Head or designated representative. Usually no supervision exercised.

Physical Requirements

This position requires heavy lifting including the exertion of 100 pounds of force occasionally and up to 50 pounds of force frequently. Position requires considerable physical activity including walking, lifting, reaching, stooping, standing, grasping, balancing, climbing, kneeling, and crouching. Incumbent is subject to inside and outside activities with no effective protection from weather changes, noise, vibrations, potential job hazards, and atmospheric conditions. Visual acuity is required to inspect equipment, operate automotive equipment, and perform maintenance tasks. Position requires hearing sufficient to accurately understand information at normal spoken word levels.
