This position will be located at the Lewis & Clark State Office Building, 1101 Riverside Drive, Jefferson City, MO 65102.

This position is an integral part of an accounting team who loves serving others while working to increase the transparency, accuracy, and timeliness of financial information distributed within and outside the department. Ability to problem solve, attention to detail, and ability to meet deadlines are important skills for this position.   • Review grant applications and awards for accuracy, clarity, appropriate calculations and completeness, prior to departmental approval. Monitor and submit applications and awards to awarding agencies on behalf of the department.
  • Ensure chart of accounts codes including grant codes and budgets for awards and amendments are established to comply with reporting requirements, in SAM II, the state’s accounting system, and Salesforce, our grants platform.
  • Assists with the preparation/review of complex Federal Financial Reports. Has a good understanding and awareness of the differing set of requirements unique to each grant award.
  • Analyzes data collected on various monthly and quarterly reports; identifies and researches accounting issues and suggests adjustments and/or journal entries to ensure compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Gather, interpret, and compile data for federal funding draw process.
  • Assist with the preparation of the state’s Annual Comprehensive Financial Report.
  • Reconcile revenue and expenditure data in preparation of grant close outs.
  • Receive and verify payroll adjustment forms, and work with OA Accounting to process the adjustments.
  • Run or review queries using Access for preparing reports or for entry of SAM II documents.
  • Monitor expenditures and revenue transactions for compliance with statutes, policies and procedures, compliance with bidding requirements, coding accuracy and appropriateness, etc.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Principles of Accounting : Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles, standards, and practices (for example, double entry accounting, accrual accounting), including the full accounting cycle and the preparation of work sheets, financial statements, ledgers, and journals.


Equivalent to those typically gained by:

  • Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 12 credit hours in accounting, finance, business administration or closely related area; and 2-4 years of relevant experience and/or appropriate certification. (Substitutions may be allowed.)
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Access and Excel.
  • Degree in Accounting preferred.
  • Knowledge of the statewide accounting system and data warehouse reports.
