Job Description

This recruitment will establish an employment list to fill current and any future vacancies for those County departments that have this position. The anticipated life of the employment list is six months. If interested in employment for this position for current or future vacancies, please submit an online application for consideration.

Current vacancy is with Tulare County General Services Agency located in Visalia. The anticipated life of the list is six (6) months.

Applications will be reviewed by General Services Agency as extra help positions become available, County departments with the job openings select the most qualified and appropriate applicant for the position available. The number of hours and duration of employment varies by each assignment. Extra help employees may work in a variety of County departments in locations throughout the geographic county area.

Extra help employees may not work more than 1,559 hours in any fiscal year from July to June. An extra help employee who mistakenly works in excess of 1,559 hours in a fiscal year does not become a probationary or regular employee. Applications will be active for six months. Typical Duties

Check automotive equipment for gasoline, oil, water, air, and battery water as needed; lubricate automotive equipment, change oil, oil filters, transmission fluid and brake fluid on a regularly scheduled basis; inspect, lubricate or adjust as needed door latches, hinges, mirrors, and window cranks; inspect, replace and balance tires; inspect and pack front wheel brakes; service, replace and recharge batteries; replace headlights, taillights, and turn signals; deliver automotive equipment and pick up parts and supplies; steam clean motor and chassis; clean shop area; keep records on fuel disbursements when automated system fails; tow and strip out vehicles; perform tire and tube inventory; install hoses and belts.

Minimum Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum qualifications are used as a guide for establishing the education, training, experience, special skills and/or license which are required and equivalent to the following.

Education - Equivalent to completion of twelfth (12th) grade

Experience - One (1) year of experience in an automotive repair shop.

Knowledge of - Basic workings of car and truck engines, chassis, suspension and wheels; correct use of hand held tools; automotive brake systems sufficient to perform necessary repairs and adjustments; automotive cooling systems sufficient to inspect and replace external pressure parts; automotive electrical systems sufficient to replace such things as starters and alternators.

Skill/Ability to - Read and understand work orders and parts manuals; read dials, gauges and meters; write legibly; follow written and oral instructions; tactfully, courteously and patiently deal with the public and other workers; observe safe work practices.

License or Certificate:

Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid California driver's license.
