This position will be located at Missouri Geological Survey located at 111 Fairgrounds Road, Rolla, MO. Scheduled Hours: 8:00am - 5:00pm

As a geologist and coordinator of the Underground Injection Control Program (UIC), you will coordinate with internal and external stakeholders to collect information and report injection activities to the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). As a geologist, you will provide geologic and hydrologic expertise for underground injection activities in Missouri. As part of the UIC team, you will support the core values of the Geological Survey Program which include technical competency, service, professionalism, ingenuity, and cooperation, as well as, help protect Missouri’s natural resources.

  • Perform technical assistance by applying scientifically based geologic and hydrologic principles to review and comment on hydrogeologic reports and investigations regarding Underground Injection Control (UIC) activities.
  • Develop grants, workplans, and track budgets.
  • Collect information and submit required reporting information to EPA.
  • Conduct technical and administrative evaluations for new UIC applications.
  • Conduct periodic inspections of Class II and Class V wells.
  • Update and maintain UIC well inventory and database.
  • Coordinate and communicate regularly with internal partners, consultants, other government agencies, and the public.
  • Respond to UIC inquiries.
  • Utilize ArcGIS and other computer-aided software and applications at a level required for detailed technical reviews, interpretation, and evaluations relating to geology and hydrology.


This position is required to obtain and maintain Missouri Registered Geologist credential. If you do not currently possess a Missouri Registered Geologist License, you will be given 12 months to obtain a Missouri Registered Geologist License.

  • Must have a valid Missouri Driver’s License.
  • Must be able to work outdoors and in all weather conditions, with some overnight travel required.


Equivalent to those typically gained by:

  • Experience with field investigations and oversight of drilling activities.
  • Knowledge of Federal & State UIC regulations
  • Professional experience with ArcGIS Pro.
  • Bachelor’s degree in geology that includes, at a minimum, 30 semester hours or 45 quarter hours of credit in geology including coursework required by the Missouri Board of Geologist Registration.
