This position will be located at Division of Environmental Quality, Environmental Remediation Program, Brownfields Voluntary Cleanup Program Section and will be located at 1730 East Elm St., Jefferson City, MO 65101

You will perform facility oversight related to the inspection of sites formerly contaminated with hazardous substances. The emphasis of this position will be ensuring compliance with conditions established in Environmental Covenants and providing technical assistance to new site owners. You will work on a range of sites in the Brownfield, Superfund and Tanks Sections across the state as part of a team of professionals in the Environmental Remediation Program’s Long Term Stewardship Unit.

  • Conduct inspections and perform oversight of remediated sites in accordance with federal and state laws and regulations and Activity and Use Limitations established in Environmental Covenants.
  • Participate in project work planning, tracking, and reporting. This will include preparing inspection cover letters and photo logs that document site conditions. File documents and enter records into database.
  • Utilize ArcGIS platforms to create maps and property boundaries for publicly available maps.
  • Evaluate database information for inclusion in monthly uploads.


This position requires the individual to obtain and maintain a state issued driver’s license.

  • Risk Management - Knowledge of the principles, methods, and tools used for risk assessment and mitigation, including assessment of failures and their consequences.


Equivalent to those typically gained by:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Science or closely related field. Experience in computer science with emphasis on database management and working with GIS data is required.
  • For Assistant: Bachelor’s degree and 0-1 year of relevant experience.
  • For Analyst: Bachelor’s degree and 2+ years of relevant experience.


(Additional education or experience may substitute for the required education or experience)

  • Ability to effectively manage data with Geographical Information System (GIS) software.
  • The position also requires the ability to work alone and in groups, occasional overnight travel, and ability to transverse rough terrain on foot.
